Texas to the ACC Rumor

That would just be really odd to see a Texas team in the ACC. I noticed in the first link it said something about Texas A & M possibly joining as well.

I can't see it happening, ATLANTIC COAST conference and all, but it would be great for me personally.

Wasn't there a big, long thread on this a couple of weeks ago?

Or was it on the Hive?

Well, I suppose that technically the Gulf of Mexico could be considered the Atlantic, so there's one point of commonality, but that's about all. Reading the hogs thread, its a good point about the travel cost for all those Olympic sports that have no budget. When the closest teams are 875 miles (FSU) and 975 miles (GT) away, you're in the wrong conference.

*cough**Boston College**cough*

If Texas really is talking to Greensboro, it's only as leverage to get the tiebreaker changed in the Big 12.

Man I would love to see that happen. GT playing Texas? I'd drink to that!!! I'd drink all gameday for that.

One second thought maybe it would not be that big of a change since I do that for every game.

That second article is excellent. I did not take into account how much it would add to the TV contracts because of the huge fan base. The GTAA would get a big boost of money from that. Also it could help level boost the ACC's reputation. Maybe we would not have to keep hearing everyone say that the SEC is the god of football.

I know it is a longshot but I really hope this happens!!!

The UT needs to find a conference that would make a better bluff.

You're right, I thought that too. It looks like it's not a real article though. I haven't found the actual article on CBS. You're right though, if they'd said SEC, people probably would have believed it longer.

By that logic so could the Pacific....anybody up for adding USC?

True, but at least, you don't have to go through a canal to get there... and I am assuming that you're not suggesting entering a completely different hemisphere to travel within your "conference."

Still would prefer Tech back to the SEC.
Natural rivals,distance etc.

Switch us and South Carolina and you got yourself a deal. USCe has been in the SEC for less time than we have, and no one really likes them anyway.

Well, the "article" does mention OU and OSU going to the SEC as well, effectively killing the "Big 12".

OU and OSU to the SEC makes more sense than Texas and A&M to the ACC.

We may see 16 team conferences coming in the next 10 years, with two discreet sets of teams meeting for a championship, like the old NL and AL before inter-league play.

Take the SEC, for example.

SEC West:
Oklahoma
Oklahoma ST
Texas
Texas A&M
LSU
Arkansas
Ole Miss
MSU

SEC East:
Alabama
Auburn
UT
Vandy
Kentucky
UGAG
Florida
USCe

The power that conference wielded would be enormous. Similar to the old, old SoCon before it split into ultimately the SEC and ACC.

The ACC might look like this.

ACC North:
Boston College
UConn
Pitt
Penn State
Rutgers
Maryland
UVA
VT

ACC South:
UNC
NCSU
Duke
Wake
Clemson
GA Tech
FSU
Miami

I can see four of what's left of the Big 12 and add it to the MWC, say Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas, KSU and Colorado. Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa ST, ND and Syracuse to the Big Ten.

You can almost see it in the making.

Realignment into 16 team super conferences would also be a boon for the chances of a playoff as well.

I think it would be awesome.
