That was the last team I remember with injuries like this. They started out the year with Robert Edwards and Mike Bobo in the backfield.

Edwards went down. Then Bobo. Edwards' backup was Larry Bowie. Bowie went down. Bobo's backup was Brian Smith. He went down.

They ended the year with Hines Ward as QB and Torin Kirtsey as the running back.

They also lost Randall Godfrey, their All-SEC linebacker to injuries that year.

That team walloped SC to open the season and then it was all downhill after the loss of Edwards. They ended up 6-6.

This Tech team reminds me of that UGA team...unfortunately.

As a UGA fan that is the year I can most recall that the wheels really came off due to injury. Until Edwards went down it looked like Goff had really built a monster that year. We had little depth and just a few injuries made for a big drop off. Had that team stayed healthy Goff would probably still be at UGA. He had finally gotten a good coaching staff assembled. I think DC-Kines, OC-McDuffie,rest his soul, David Kelly, McWhorter, QBs Greg Davis, and some others that were definate improvements from what he had gone through.

They would have been good that year. Edwards was the real deal, just like Hollings is.
