The barnes'

Ok. He's a RS Jr. Seems like he's been on the team for 8 years.

Anyway, it doesn't change anything.

Kind of like Ian Johnson for Boise St. Still can't believe he actually isn't playing on the smurf turf anymore...

Three games yes, but he also wore that uniform to practice for two falls and a spring. Not saying that he should be better, just saying I'd be shocked if your right. If you go through a spring training, playing snaps against our starting OL and still think your going to beat people with size alone at this level then wow.....

(if you didn't know he was redshirted, then all is well)

Shame on me but I completely forgot that he was a redshirt Freshman. I retract my post because I agree with you. That's enough time to have made the adjustment.

It's all in the last name. Remember how well the Johnson boys (Calvin, Michael) performed? And now, the coach? Can't get enough of them Johnsons.

You're kind of an idiot. AT is a 5th-year senior. Either by injuries or changing positions, he just hasn't been the kind of player many people, including myself, thought he was going to be. It happens.

He started for 2 years. If not for a defensive scheme change he would probably be starting this year. He is going to play more now that we will move back towards 4-3. He has been our best ST player from a coverage standpoint.

I'll bet he makes an NFL roster when his time comes.

I have seen nothing as to why AT isn't playing. He makes plays on ST and he made plays last year, unless it has something to do with his injury in the UGAg game.

AT is a physical specimen. Don't know whats missing for him not to be a man among boys on the field. I know there is one sign I do not like. I do not like it when he turns sideways and leads with his shoulder into a blocker covering kicks. Thats something a girl would do.

Gimme a break, guys. I came along when "gay" meant happy and "Johnson" meant an outboard motor. It takes us old guys a while to readjust our thinking. :(
How big is your outdoor motor?!:ugh:

j/k

but it sounds as though everyone thinks that AT will be on the field more with our scheme change and that TJ still needs to work on his form to get on the field....

thanks!

There are two questions here:

First about staying low. It is all about coaching. It is also hard for a 6'7" man to get low, much less stay low. It's simple ballistics. But it can be learned with practice. It's a balance thing. But it's not like you have to run 10 yards hunkered over. You actually fire out low and get under your opponent and then stand him up (it's the same hip thrust as in the power clean, your power comes from your base), and then defeat the block. So it's a fire out thing, and the guy on the LOS who gets the lowest (and stays balanced on his feet) usually wins the down.

This is a real problem with the extra big HS players. They can just dominate w/o learning technique, and many HS coaches just let them. Then they struggle at the college level.

Second, IMO, AT Barnes is very athletic but a good bit undisciplined. He has over run many a play. With only two true LB's in this D, and with guys like Sed, Jefferson, Jackson, Sylvester and now Burnett, it is no surprise to me his PT has gone down. He seems to be a great young man, though, and I hope he gets back in the 2-deep.

Doesn't change the fact that you don't need to slam a player either.
I wish you people would pull your tampons out. I didn't 'slam' AT Barnes. I stated a fact. He's been on the team for almost 5 years, and hasn't contributed very much...or at least to what most people kept saying/wishing/hoping he would.

It happens to every team. It's not a big deal. Sometimes even highly-recruited guys like Brandon Miller just don't put it all together at the college level. That's ok.

But the OP asked why we haven't heard anything from AT. There's your reason.
