That the players wanted to participate in this bowl... It is clear we should have stayed home and declined this bowl insult. Now we have just allowed outselves to whore our student athletes for the good of Ma Tech and the AA. And the SA's know it and showed it by their performance on the field. If Clough wants our athletic program to cow down to academics, why does he force this on the school and the program. Is he trying to purposely destroy our football reputation? If he really is aloof to athletics why did he even fly to the West coast and party when the players toiled unenthusiastically and sacrificed their holidays away from home in a meaningless bowl game played on a baseball field... Clough replied in an email to me that Tech accepted the bowl "for the players". Does anyone really believe the players' hearts were in playing this game? Isn't it clear they didn't want to be there? Did the players even get to vote whether they wanted to attend this bowl? Thats the way they used to do it...

All is not lost but if we really love our program we will give it some tough love and demand better. Clough must understand how important athletics are to Ga Tech as a whole. Braine must go, period. And hard headed Gailey needs to be made to get a QB and an OC or he ought to slink back to Americus and raise cows...

Right or wrong, Ramblin, it's too late now to call this bowl an insult. I doubt many who saw it, or read about it tomorrow, will think that this bowl was beneath GT.

This has been revealed for over a year.

clough does not care about our S/As. He cared that he would get an all expense paid trip to the west coast for the holidays.

clough is a lying scumbag in his response to you.

Great post Ramblin'. We should've declined this invitation and made a statement to John Swofford. Instead, we sollied our reputation further by damaging our one record that was still impressive - our bowl performance record.

It does seem like Braine is purposefully driving down our football program. I want to see his mission and how he intended to achieve it. I want to see the bullet points that he has accomplished and how his mission is still in reach.

It seems to me that he is trying the same formula he used at VPI. However, this time it isn't working, and he continues to pursue it with hubris. Our program is in shambles because of him. Braine/Gailey/Ball. Unfortunately, Braine will end his career forgetting Tech and regaling his glory days at VPI. Poor us. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif

GT's bowl record, for many years the best winning percentage in college football, is now (after the Emerald bowl loss) the third best winning percentage (22-12 .647). USC (28-15 .651) and Penn State (23-12-2 ,649) are now #'s 1 and 2 respectively.

Wins by FSU ans Texas will put GT back atop this list, which is something I have always been proud to boast about over the years.

Now that I\'ve calmed down a bit, let me be clear

I'm not accusing anyone of lying about whether the players really wanted to play or not. I'm just saying that judging from the performance their hearts were not in it, in my opinion. I don't know if a vote was taken or not and I have not talked to any players... ESPN just called Ga Tech players "conscientious objectors" about playing in this game. Sad but seemingly true.

"...Braine is purposefully driving down our football program..."

When he was hired, even prior to, some posters said hiring him was a dangerous move due to the fact that he would eventually sabotage our program. At the time, I thought that was seriously silly. Why would one jeopardize his own reputation? I still can't figure that one out unless it could bee that he doesn't care and he was too lazy to go out and find the right fit. That is the only thing I can think of. Yes, that could bee it. Something IS definitely wrong going on with the GTAA to allow this kind of performance to continue year after year. That is just NOT typical of GEORGIA TECH.
