Guys, I understand why everyone is upset, and I understand you want to make some changes because we're going down a road no-one wants to go down. But there are some facts you've got to look at.

#1, Gailey inherited a 8-5 team, and was 4-4 in the ACC last year. Not world beaters.
#2, We lost #1 WR, #1 RB, and #1 QB from last year and they were all studs.
#3, injuries has wracked our team, from our #1 AND #2 RB's to our All-American canidate DE.
#4, We have a new head coach in his 1st year, with a new staff. It's going to take time to get used to it.

You have to give him time. You cannot judge a coach on his 1st year, I don't care where you coach or what kind of talent you have. After his 2nd year you'll have more information about the oach and can then start analyzing him; before then, ride the storm and let's see what happened. As Goldtimer has pointed out, there are TONS of 1st year coaches who have struggled, but went on to have great careers (Dodd).

Beernuts,

I agree with you. We have to give Gailey a chance. I'm as disappointed as anyone in our losses. But I think people that want him gone are way out of line at this point. All of your above points are valid.

Most coaching changes involve a few bumps and bruises. We're getting more than our share this year. But we need to stand behind CG. At this point, he deserves our support and patience.

Should we bash the players then? I mean they completely quit in the third quarter. Whose fault is that? I really question Gailey's intelligence in game situations. His decision to kick a field goal from the 2 yard line was a classic in indecision. We get a delay, Fridge declines it daring him to go for it and the whole time Suggs looks completely lost. And then in the fourth needing three scores to tie the game, he goes for it on 4th and 5? C'mon.

I'm not calling for CG's head... he has to have a couple of seasons ... No one deserves to be booted after only one season...
Unfortunately for us we have to allow CG to make his mark on this program... It is in the hands of a very able AD and it is his decision when to take the wheel and change the course...
I'm disapointed in our performance this year... I did expect more from Gailey... at least to maintain the status quo... any minor bowl would be satisfactory this year... BUT a bowl appearance will be a miracle based on the past 2 performances... and if we continue to play this way how many more times will we be broadcast on TV?? Even JPS will prefer to broadcast Wake Forest games... *sigh*...
We don't have any choice at this point but to sit even tighter and hold our collective breathes... oh yeah praying to a higher power would probably be appropriate from here on...

GO JACKETS!!! THW#5G!!!

Good posts guys. We DO have to give Gailey a chance. It seems like AJ is still trying to adjust to football again. He just doesn't look comfortable out there.

As for the "questionable" decisions by the coaching staff, it's simply a conservative attitude. If it's 4th and inches, we're talking about a different story. But 4th from the 2 1/2? Imaging the momentum they would have had if they'd stopped us. Instead, we go into the half only down 3, having just scored. I agree with the decision totally.

Besides, all coaches are second guessed. 790 interviewed Tommy Lasorda the other day. They asked him if he second guessed the coaches when he watches games. He said, "No. I FIRST guess them." He said second guessing is for when you know the outcome of one way.

Bottom line, you can't expect instant results. Even at UF, where they have all the talent in the world, and a Heisman quality QB, they're struggling with the coaching change. It just takes time.

NOT REALLY, the bad call was when we had the ball on the 2 foot line a QB sneak was a good decision but what did we do? You know, then we had to settle for the field goal. The bad decision came on the 3rd down call!!!! Can we complain about the play calling yes we can and we should! But to call the coaches names like "buck" and Braine dead you are correct. But, in a public forum we should let the coaches know that we are unhappy with the calls and after who pays the salary's we the fans and contributors to Tech. If he doesn't play the way the game is to played then we should let him and the others know. The players are just that and the decisions are not to be put on their shoulders.

If the team continues to play uninspired ball and "quit" then CG does indeed need to go. It's his friggin job to come up with a gameplan, make adjustments, and INSPIRE THE PLAYERS.

None of which seem to be working at this point. By the way... I would take 4-4 in the ACC over what we will be this year.

If I managed as badly as Gailey "seems to be coaching", and after a couple of warnings,,,,,
guess what? I wouldn't have a freakin' job!

Yes, coaches get paid for their job and should take the heat when it is deserved.

I know Gailey is a good person and hates to make changes that could affect someone's career, however, he is getting paid to make our young players into winners and GT football into a winner.

When the decisions come down to the best interest of the GT football team or the coaches, it should always be in the interest of the football team. The coaches are paid for their effort and nothing else is owed to them. The head coach owes all of his efforts and the assistant coaches efforts to the football team and the fans.

"Why the fans?", because we foot the bill.

How many coaches make a $mil a year? In my opinion that i9s BIG money for BIG results - not what we are getting. When GOL started at 200k a few losses are acceptable. At the million dollar level you just don't lose like that. Look at this list and tell me we are getting our moneys worth.

Millionaires' row

Football 08/03/2001
$2.1 million Steve Spurrier Florida
$2 million Bob Stoops Oklahoma
$1.5 million Bobby Bowden Florida State
$1.45 million Mack Brown Texas
$1.3 million Barry Alvarez Wisconsin
$1.3 million Phillip Fulmer Tennessee
$1.3 million Glen Mason Minnesota
$1.2 million Nick Saban LSU
$1.25 million Tommy Tuberville Auburn
$1.2 million Pete Carroll USC
$1.2 million Rick Neuheisel Washington
$1.1-1.4 million Tommy Bowden Clemson
$1.1 million Dennis Franchione Alabama
$1.1 million George O'Leary Georgia Tech
$1.025 million Frank Beamer Virginia Tech
$1.012 million Lloyd Carr Michigan
$1+ million Joe Paterno Penn State
$1 million Mike Bellotti* Oregon
$1 million Bill Snyder Kansas State
$1 million Dennis Erickson* Oregon State
$1 million Frank Solich Nebraska
$1 million R.C. Slocum Texas A&M
*Erickson and Bellotti reach $1 million with incentives.

** South Carolina's Lou Holtz earns $1.049 million; $235,000 of that comes from a long-standing arrangement with an outside speakers bureau and is not part of the university package.

Look what three-quarter of a mil will get you.
Richt gets raise, one-year extension

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Georgia football coach Mark Richt was given a $50,000 raise and another year on his contract Tuesday.
The deal, which was approved by the UGA Athletic Board, brings Richt's total salary to $800,000 and leaves him with five years on his contract.

GT is not getting a very good return on investment with the 2002 team and staff. This might be the start of another "bear" market for the Institute. Gosh darn, I hope not.(pc expression)

Beeware was put down for his "negative" attitudes re current coaching staff and GTAA but his observations are fast gaining a sense of veracity in the short term. Maybe we were all caught in the headlights?

Let's be real here. Do you honestly think the players have a great deal of respect for their coaches? We are on the outside looking in and look at all our thoughts and comments. I can't imagine what it like on the inside. Especially for the seniors and juniors who have had the luxury of some very good coaching before CG! That's the real kicker!
