hands down its the Big 10.. chock full of overated, over-press covered, pretenders every year..

The SEC, for that exact reason. I haven't heard a peep from the Big 10 this season...

SEC without a doubt. Brag about everything, think they are kings of us all, think every team wishes they were in the SEC and then, even if all teams were to lose every game, they would say something like "its not only about the game, but about the atmosphere (read size of stadium and idiocy of fans) and the tradition"

puke now, harikari later

not too unrelated, but what were the circumstances surrounding GT leaving the SEC? anyone know?

The Missouri Valley Conference. What a bunch of tools.

look on ramblinwreck.com go to 'history' and read all about why Dodd wouldnt go play in Mississippi and how he didnt like their cheatin a$$es

Big Televen by a narrow margin. I think both them and the SEC suffer from the over-hyped media coverage and their fans having an unbelievable sense of entitlement. But the fact that the Big Televen doesn't have a championship game is the tie breaker for me.

All posts thus far summarize my general feelings for these douchebags.

PAC-10 gets honorable mention simply because I may be 6 feet in the cold hard Earth before it becomes more than a one-horse race.

Easier to paste from an old site than to type it up, but basically:
Bobby Dodd removed us from the conference because (1) he thought we could be a successful independent, like Notre Dame, and (2) because the SEC had imposed scholarship limitations. Most coaches didn't care about the scholly limits, but Dodd refused to remove injured or out-of-eligibility players from scholarship, as he insisted the boys continue their education.

At the time we were kicking ass and taking names in the conference (though there were a few lean years of ~50% in the late 50s/early 60s), and were, just behind Bama, the big boys on the block.

Of all the reasons to hate the Big Ten, this is the one that I have to say I'm the least concerned with.

Championship games are just pointless cash grabs instituted by conferences that are way too large. The ACC expansion should be a perfect example of this.

SEC with Big 10 running a close second. A lot of Ohio transplants here in the lowcountry.

I had lunch today with a ND-tOSU fan at work (a meeting with some sales guys). We were talking football and I mentioned to him that Sagarin had the ACC as his top rated conference. He said "no way" and proceeded to place us fourth behind the Big 12, SEC and Big 10.

I had to change the subject. Clearly I wasn't dealing with a rational man. Even the Ball State grad at the table laughed at him.

Big 10 with SEC a close second. A Big 10 game, to me at least, always evokes the image of a noon ESPN start between two boring teams, with a bleak, overcast sky, and the verbal stylings of Pam Ward to take us through the action (or lack thereof). Big 10 football is a valley of ashes.

Big 10. SEC fans acknowledge their conference is down this year. Big 10 fans won't.

I have not heard one SEC fan this year admit the conference is down...

Seems to me that there are two great teams (Bama and UF) then a bunch of average to crappy teams.

With the implications they have on the bowl season, they are more than just some cash grab. If BCS bowls are determined by winning a conference, then the way to win a conference should be standard across the board.

I personally hate the Big Ten and Pac-10 for having their head stuck up tradition's ass. They're one of the biggest road blocks to getting a playoff because they think it's still the 1920's, and the Rose Bowl is the greatest thing on Earth. They pitch a fit at anything that would threaten their bowl tie-in.

+1

I don't recall any Big 10 game that I ever anticipated, or was overly thrilled/captivated by. Never.

SEC, the untimate redneck football league, no class, under educated, loyal to the state they reside in or the team the tractor dealership supports.

Yes, but for the most important game the implications aren't really that great.

What happens if Oklahoma loses this weekend? Texas will go to the title game instead. So what's the point of the the title game in that instance other than to make money?
