Not the hit on Tyrod Taylor. The game changed when we fumbled right before half. That was at least a 7 point swing and could have been 10 to 14 had we driven the field in the closing minutes. We are killing ourselves and it bit us in the ass yesterday.

Exactly my thoughts again and again when I talked to friends about the game. Even worse that it was a pretty routine part of the the game rather than a pitch or toss or even long pass.

True albeit there were other factors. The "re-buildingness" of it all.

The two principle characters in the fumble play mentioned were playing high school ball two years ago. Not too bad for Blacksburg. Great experience for these kids.

Despite our failures we are getting much better.

GO JACKETS! GO TECH!!!

turnovers turnovers..

In BC game, we got away, because we created turnovers in the second half, in VT game we couldn't. It's still very encouraging that we could have won the game even with a -3 turnover balance.

We still had a good chance to win the game near then end, but the critical couple of plays happened somewhere around 3 minutes to go in the game.

1st and 10 at GT 31: Cox rushes right for 2 yards, tackled by Thompson and Brown.

2nd and 8 at GT 33: Dwyer rushes right for 1 yard, knocked out of bounds by Chancellor.

This put us at 3rd and 7, and the VT side really started ramping up the pressure, and we folded.

It seemed to me these 2 plays sapped the momentum we might have been getting. If we could have gotten a couple extra yards in these 2 plays, I think we would have been over the hump.

I actually was very impressed with our sophomore leaders having no good road experience and being as disciplined as he was.

Regarding the fumble before the half, there was about 1:10 to go, we were on the road in a hostile environment with the lead, and I thought to myself--does it really make sense to try and score in this situation? I hoped we wouldn't try anything risky.

Then I thought, for us the triple option IS risky at this stage of implementation. Sure enough we run it and cough it up.

Part of me was mad. But part of me respects PJ's aggressiveness. He is who he is. In the end his aggression is going to win us a lot more football games than it will lose. And in the future, the triple option will be a much less risky play for us!

Still, situationally for this road game early in this year, I thought there was a much greater chance of disaster striking than us going down and scoring. Even if we'd gotten in FG range, that unit is shaky.

All that said, I love PJ and believe in him 110%

With the ball essentially at the 40 and over a minute to go, you HAVE to run your offense. Anything else just makes the point to the team that you have no confidence in them. Yeah, we had the TO. But it also says to the guys that the coaches were after more points and believe they can get the job done.
