After reading the Hive, Im getting the impression that the negative posters are blaming the players more than Gailey..

Whereas here, the oposite seems to be true.. Gailey is taking all the heat...

I admit that I havent read every single post on the Hive so perhaps Im wrong (if so, my apologies).. has anyone gotten this vibe at the Hive?

Remember that Im talking about the NEGATIVE posters, not the majority...

If that is true, and since the Hive has a rule against bashing student athletes but not coaches, then I wonder how many more posts are blaming players (or player, who shall remain nameless) but being deleted.

If Gailey himself deserves any heat, it's for hiring Nix or for allowing Nix to continue to play Reggie. Gailey did exactly what he needed to do, this past offseason, to ensure that he was not directly responsible for any horrid performances by our offense.

It's Nix's show. Gailey is no more responsibile for our crap offense than he is for our awesome defense. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Gailey is doing what Gailey is supposed to do, and I commend Gailey for that. I truly think we have a good head coach.

I think our game planning is okay, but not great, I think our offense doesn't execute with discipline, and I think our quarterback is severely lacking in composure during pressure situations. Those are our problems. Combine all those and you get what we've had all year.

Not a loaded question:

Is this a change for you from previously?

I agree 100%. While the HC is 'responsible' for it all, Chan made major changes to fix problems last year. He put the O pressures on Nix. Nix had a rough three games if you throw the pitiful UNC game in with the UGA/Wake pair. I hate to be controversial, but I think that After a rough 2005, Gailey did some excellent HC work. I also think that it is reasonable to give Nix another year. One not entirely unsuccessful year is not the no-brainer the bashers on here claim. I do believe that last year's offense was WORSE. So modest improvement is my opinion of 2006.

I'd be tempted to agree if he weren't also the QB coach the last several years. That alone is enough to get him fired, IMO. Perhaps if he were better at developing QBs, we wouldn't be howling so bad about the playcalling and the overall offensive production.

I'd be a little less critical him if I sensed that Reggie was forced on him, but he always seemed extremely protective of his QB - way too soft on him. Even if personnel was not his call, there should have been some progress. Hard to say how he'd do with a different QB. I guess we're going to find out. But I sure am nervous if these last 4 years are representative of his coaching skills.

beej hit the nail on the head. Gailey can't be blamed for the offensive playcalling, just like he can't be given credit for the defensive schemes. If you want someone to blame for playcalling, then it falls to Nix.
But if Gailey wanted a change at quarterback, then he certainly has the authority to make that change. He obviously didn't want the change for whatever reason. I like Gailey as a head coach, and I think he did the right thing by handing the playcalling over to someone new. He should do the same thing next year.

tigger, You sum it up nicely. In 2005 fans could not pinpoint decisively the change that would improve the O. By moving playcalling to Nix, all three mentioned problems fell on Nix. (playcalling, QB, and the overall O.)

Next year we will know if Nix was limited by Reggie or Reggie was limited by Nix. Nix's career is probably hanging on the QB play next year be it Bennett or other. If he does not have a good QB, he better find a way to playcall and scheme around that.

I thought before the last two games that Nix was more limited by Reggie than Reggie being limited by Nix. After seeing the offense the last two games, I have changed my mind. Throwing long low percentage passes instead of shorter ones (which were open all day against Wake) and getting away from the run in the 2nd half is baffling.

Tenuta is a master at creating schemes that work to the strengths of his players and minimize the weaknesses. That is why he is so good. Nix hasn't been able to do that this year. If he is still OC next year, will the playbook open up with a new quarterback? Will we be able to throw over the middle, assuming in this case that Nix is limited by Reggie? Will the offense be tailored to the talent available? If not, then we need someone else.

Don't agree dustjacket. The Hive is more policed in terms of what you say about players, but they've actually locked down on anti-Reggie post/threads since there were so many right after the game. There isn't much difference in the overall tone of the Hive and STingtalk right now imo.
