I know most people understand this, but I seen a few post where people are down on the TO and think that blocking isn't that important and that JD and co. can do it on their own.


Paul Johnson's record is 118–44*. Figure that.

And guess who missed the block that got Jones killed?

The guy that should be riding the pine and letting Cox start in his place.

I think Allen is a great runner, but he was not here last year for the 'basics'. Cox/Wright and others were, that's why we were more successful with the option last year, and why our only big runs this year have come from the times when Allen could actually make a block.

We need to either get Allen blocking like he should, or put Cox back in.

The number of missed blocks in Thursday night's game kills me. Wait, I take that back, because when we did get some blocks they were of the "to the back" variety, which was even worse.

I keep watching this video and I don't see any way that AA (or Cox, or anyone) could make that block. The Miami defender just rushed to the point of the pitch. The only guy who could have made that block was the slot reciever. The Aback position is to far in to effectively block that LB.

Two thing need to happen to make that play. Either, hit a short route to the Aback into the area cleared out by the LB (who obviously wasn't concerned about a pass). Or have the slot reciever block the LB, and have the Aback block the middle LB. It looks like Miami just made the right read on the play.

It should also be noted that the left guard and tackle were both pushed backwards on the play.

Our blocking better be in full force against UNC. Our offense will likely be our best Defense if UNC has it's way on O. I really think we will see a big difference in blocking on Saturday.

I agree with this, which is why the blocking assignments should have been reversed.
