Duke plays at Louisville tonight (7 pm ESPN) in a game that was probably expected to be a close contest when they planned it several months ago. Instead, it will be the Jackson-for-Heisman show. I expect the announcers to try to keep the audience tuned in by anticipating the next super-human display.

Can the ACC just make a decision to have Louisville and Clemson rematch in the ACC championship?

If Clemson and Louisville both stay undefeated the rest of the way, then can they both get in the playoff?

I know the committee likes conference champions, but they played in Death Valley right to the final seconds. I think if both continue to play well then there is a strong argument to be made for both to be included assuming Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Tex A&M and/or Washington stumble. OSU-Mich and Bama-TAMU play each other and those look like elimination games at this point. Louisville could be helped by playing Clemson early if other losses in the Top 5 line up for them.

With only 4 playoff spots and 5 Power 5 conference champions I don't know how the committee could consider a team that didn't even win its division, much less conference, as playoff-worthy. Would take a couple of 2 loss conference champions in my view. And in that case you would likely have multiple 1-loss, 2nd in division teams that would be in the mix.

If OSU-Mich and Bama-TAMU are elimination games, then UL-Clemson was also one. Shouldn't matter when you play.

Poll voters did this for Bama back in 2011 when it should have been Okie State instead. My point is - never underestimate the power of stupid people.

If UL wins out they are a likely New Years 6 bowl, but not playoff.

Best case scenario for the ACC is a Clem-Miami matchup. VT and UNC both lost OOC, so you don't want them winning the division.

There's definitely a possibility of Louisville getting in, but it would take some work. Washington would probably have to lose twice and lose the Pac-12, and either Michigan or Ohio State would need to lose twice, leaving Clemson, Ohio State/Michigan, Alabama, and Louisville as the 4. I think the Big 12 will eliminate itself and no more than one SEC team will have less than two losses, so those problems should solve themselves.

In early season of 2014, one ESPN "expert" had 3 SEC teams in his playoff top 4.

Louisville could totally still get in. The media love for Lamar Jackson is strong to quite strong.

I think Louisville can make it with a little bit of help. I feel they have a better chance to beat Alabama than anyone else, including Clemson.

There are only 3 playoff spots this year after the spot they are reserving for Michigan
