The Moment when CPJ stole Stoopids soul ....

Watching the replay of the first down play over and over is interesting. I have seldom seen a short yardage play defended so poorly. How many times in the last two years would we have had better outcomes if they all looked like this? There was a little space in the way they lined up on our our left side, but then the major screwup was their defensive guys played high. Our linemen charged out low, the ball carrier stayed low, and it wasn't contested at all.
 
Who among us watching this wasn't saying "here's the play where we put one AB in motion, then the other AB, then call timeout" ?

So you know that UK was saying, on 4th down and short, when the put the guy in motion, DON'T MOVE.

So imagine their surprise, and ours as well, when we snapped the ball before the 2nd AB motion! Perfect way to freeze the DL for a surge block.

I don't know if you saw the side line reporter explains our stance versus Kentucky. He basically said we had the advantage from the get go.
 
I think Coit has a good point. At the snap, they didn't look like a defense about to defend an important short yardage play. I thought PJ was going for it, but when the first back moved behind the quarterback, I had no idea what was coming. A very slick move by PJ. Don't you know he has been sitting on that one waiting for just the right moment to call it?
 
In the post-game, Johnson said we were planning to just call timeout and punt, but they didn't cover the guard. "If they're not gonna cover the guard..."

He also said he was going to signal it in to JT to go, but JT snapped it before he could

I fully expected CPJ to go for it. It just made sense.

Then we had the 1st AB option, and I thought, oh here comes the timeout.

Q. A lot of big fourth-down plays that went your way today. That seemed to be a big key to the game.
COACH JOHNSON: Yeah, we got some good stops defensively on fourth down that helped. I went brain-dead there from my own 10. I was going to call timeout, but when they didn't cover the guard, I figured we'd let it roll. We did. Got the first down, so it was good. Went on down and scored.
