When we play the Clemson's of the world, and are outmatched physically, we have to open up the offense. Break the bone with the A-backs in the slot. Use Wr motion for misdirection type runs, or options. They can also crack block on these plays. This would open holes for Mills inside. We could still run the dive, B-back option, or speed option. The quick passing game out this look would be effecient. Three steps and release. No more five step drops on obvious passing downs with three defenders breathing down JT's neck. I think Searcy and Green would be nice passing threats out of the slot. We could send all four on verticals, and let Jt find a seam and take off. We could also do some end arounds, or fake reverses and run the B-back dive or B-back option. I am not saying we abandon our base offense completely, but a few wrinkles should be added. Good coaches are not stubborn. They adjust their play calling based on their opponent, matchups, and flow of the game.

How many threads regarding the offense are you going to start?

Maybe you didn't watch the game, but we already do most of what you mention here. We have WR motion, we have trips, we have AB in the slot. JT doesn't have the arm strength to throw the quick underneaths nor the deep verticals. IIWII

Disagree with the arm strength characterization. JT doesn't have the height to throw quick underneaths, and he doesn't have the time to throw deep verts.

You say potato, I say potatoe.

We do that but for some reason it takes too long to adjust to it. Against BC it took us about four 3 and outs to start doing it. Definite iiwii.

When have we ever gone four wide with just the B-back in the backfield? When I metioned the verticals, I was implying that would create running room for Thomas to run a draw or find a seam and run on occasion.

We literally called every play you mentioned in the game last night.

I would like to see us rocket toss to our fastest AB (even if he's a bench player...Cottrell?) to an open side of the field. Line up both WRs on the same side of the field so it's only open grass. The only advantage we have with these small ABs are speed...let them have one-on-one opportunities. If our ABs can't outrun their LBs and get the edge, then we might as well punt on 1st down.

No one wants Briles, but the spread game widens the box big time. Lot easier for an O-Line to pick up their man when there are only 5 in the box vs. 8.

CPJ did most of the deep vert stuff while OC at Hawaii under Mouse Davis
he must have reasons not to do it... used to be lots of A-back blocking toward the center of the field but that has been limited by rules now... might be more reason to spread them more at times

anyways, he has tried to put some stuff in when we have the personnel in the past.. does anyone really think we have the WRs to play run and shoot?

We are truly one-dimensional, and we have been since last year.

Our poor o-line blocking doesn't allow for the dive or QB keep, and our passing is worse than a lot of high schools'.

When was the last time the dive actually produced 100 yards in a game? Maybe 2014?

We can't pass, we can't run the dive, and the QB can't keep it, so we have been reduced to a faux triple-option where everyone knows it's either a pitch or if we dare dive or QB keep, it's a 2 yard gain.

I'm tired of watching this antiquated offense. If it was so good, the Bill Belichicks of the world would be running it ... but they're not. The option is a great play to have in your playbook, but it should be modernized and run occasionally. Run it out of the gun. Call it maybe 1-2 times per series. Call it when you have the lead. Don't make it your cornerstone because a house built on sand ...

If you run it out of the gun, you basically have Auburns offense.
