Now that the Buzzoffers have gone back in their hole, can we have a real discussion of where our season is?

The fact of the matter is that we are a muffed punt and STUPID holding penalty on a senior from being 5-1. The offense finally looks like it is rounding into form and it probably should have been expected to take some time with a new coordinator.

I've sat on the fence on Chan and will until the season is over. We are not going to change head coach's in the middle of the season, so we should wait until that time to evaluate the job he's done. We are rational college graduates, yet the emotional response that I've seen on here is worse than my three year old wanting a popsicle.

It's really funny how many threads were started over the weekend by posters who rarely show their head. After a win, they disappear, but as soon as there is a loss, here comes Bugger Henry, et al.

Good post, GT1992.

lol "Bugger" Henry. I usually just call him a "douchebag", but you are more creative than I am!

Bunger Henry is a useless building at Tech.

Seems fitting...

And we are one personal foul call and a blocked punt with Clemson from being 2-4....it goes both ways. To quote Dennis Green " We are what we are". We are 3-6 in the last nine games we have played.

The real problem isn't 2 plays, the problem is that with what Chan described as his best team ever, at the midway mark of the season we're out of the division race and looking at a situation where we need to pretty much win out to have a successful season. Maybe we can do it, maybe not.

I do agree that no conclusions can be drawn until the end of the season. But this is probably the most important 6 game stretch of Chan's career at Tech.

Agreed. Besides, I'm showing up to see Tech play, irrespective of the outcome. The passing offense showed signs of life... why is noone mentioning that? Furthermore, where are all of those posters that were spouting that "I would rather go 1-10 with that win over UGA than lose to UGA and win the ACC" garbage? Winning out (with a win over UGA) is still a very real possibility.

Haha. Nice.

I'll buy that.

Our team really does look like it's coming together nicely, IMO, but our record doesn't show it, and wins and losses are what it's all about.

I think this is a lot of the problem ncjacket. Before the season started some thought we had a shot at a MNC coming out of nowhere like we did in 1990. I think most thought going to JAX again was a fore gone conclusion. This team isn't living up to some people's expectations, including my own (and I thought we had a 50-50 shot at going back to JAX), and now everyone is going through a meltdown.

If GT runs the table the rest of the way, finish strong the second half of the season, which should get us a decent bowl, I wonder if people will still be calling for Gailey's head? Some will, but if we get a win over UGA and a win in good bowl game vs. a good team, I don't think I will.

Right now it is just real hard to see us pulling off a 6 game win streak.

I doubt most thought a return to Jax was a foregone conclusion but I think most thought we would compete for a spot. I also don't think the team is living up to their own and the coach's expectations so I don't think it's just a fan thing.

BC and VT deserve it. It's just not our year.
We are suffering due to lack of preperation i.e. falling behind early, errors w/ penalties, poor tackling, and play calling. All this points to coaching. Im not saying fire CG. Put his ass on a performance plan-evaluate/grade it and make a decesion. DRAD is running a business.

It would be pretty dumb to call for his firing if he wins out and goes 9-3 again. After a UGA win, we would probably be headed to the Gator or the "Chick-fil-A," about the same level GOL ever got us to anyway.

It won't happen though, which is why Chan is probably done after this season.

I think we get there at 8-4, especially since going 8-4 at this point would mean wins against some good programs, UGA, VT, Miami, etc. 8-4 cuts the mustard. 7-5 probably doesn't. 6 wins will see him gone.

This is why I should have stuck to my 24-hour rule (i.e. - no posting until 24 hours after a loss). Now that I've cooled down, I'm excited about the season again. I don't have any fantasies about us going to JAX or anything that bold, but it's still GT football, and I'm still excited about watching every game here on out.

Every year under Gailey we seem to lose 1-2 games because of mind numblingly poor coaching. You just are not going to win championships this way.

This team did not have to get back to Jax for me to view the season as successful, but it is extremely disappointing that it has essentially been eliminated from competing for a conference title in early October. At this point, the team has to go at least 5-1 the remainder of the season without the lose being to UGA in order to even begin to think this was an okay season and I think that is highly unlikely. We are probably staring down 3-4 more wins and a final record of 6-6 or 7-5 either of which is extremely disappointing for team that your HC described as his deepest and most talented team.

Look, Gailey can still pull this season out. The rest of the schedule is not that bad. VT, UGA, Miami are our toughest games, in that order. Those of you saying we'll lose to Duke and Army need to get a grip.

Gailey still can save his job...
