The UGA game is all about turnovers.

I didn't see the UNC game. Couldn't bear to watch. One thing I do know, though, is you don't bury the opposing team fumbling 4 times, 3 on your own side of the field, once on your own 2. Purely and simply, any team in the country could get beat by UNC doing that. It's dumb, it's bad football, and it's going to get us butchered in the next 2 games if we keep doing it.

Turnovers really concern me going into Georgia. We've turned the ball over 4+2+7=13 times in our last three games. Factor in the additional 2 times we put the ball on the mat vs Duke, throw in the 5 times we put the ball on the mat vs Army, and that's a potential for 4+4+7+5=20 over our last four. 5 a game. That's terrible, and it's going to get is killed unless we stop it.

Incidentally, we looked outstanding in every other offensive category vs UNC, from a statistics perspective. 3 TD passes, and an average of 10 yards per attempt, has got to be our best passing game of the year. 6.3 yds per play is outstanding too. But 4 fumbles blows.

UNC sacked us 4 times I think and they did that by just rushing 4 the majority of the time. We had a number of problems in the passing game with QB and WR not being on the same page. I don't think we can build our passing game around a fake draw / pass play.

If we beat UGA, it will be because our defense plays lights out and we get at least 1 defensive or special teams TD or something that sets up a very short field.

Statistics don't tell the whole story. I don't know if that was our best passing game of the year, but it definitely was not a good one. TB heard boos on a couple occasions. It did look like we had potential though, at times.

10 yards per attempt and 3 TD passes is damn good, when compared with every other game of the past two or three years.

Agreed, with the exception of the Gator Bowl last year. 11 yds/attempt and 3 TD passes in that one. It's amazing the effect receivers catching balls for long TDs has on the passing game! :)

I'm not sure the UGa game is all about turnovers. Unless its us doing the turning over.

I think the outcome is largely independent of the number of UGa turnovers. We just aren't one of those teams that makes you pay for turnovers. But for keeping UGa off the field for 75 seconds, they don't help.

Tech turnovers, however, are a different story. Our score per possession ratio is pretty low so we can't afford to terminate any possession early with a turnover. Additionally, UGa is more effective at converting TOs into points.

Consequently, Tech is a lot more sensitive to turnovers than UGa is, in my opinion.

UGA might win if they fumble 4 times. We are doomed if we fumble 4 times.

We must must must go for 1 or zero turnovers to win this game.

Turnover Tally

2006: GT 3, UGAg 1, loss
2005: GT 3, UGAg 1, loss
2004: GT 0, UGAg 1, loss
2003: GT 4, UGAg 1, loss
2002: GT 5, UGAg 0, loss
2001: GT 2, UGAg 1, loss
2000: GT 2, UGAg 3, win
1999: GT 2, UGAg 4, win
1998: GT 3, UGAg 0, win
1997: GT 1, UGAg 2, loss

Some things that jump out at me here:

  1. Team that wins the turnover battle wins 7 of 10 times.
  2. During the Gailey Era, the total is GT 15 turnovers, UGAg 4. Incredible.
  3. Two of the cases where the team losing the turnover battle still won the game (1998, 2004), the losing team was vastly inferior but able to stay in the game with the turnover delta.
