His name you ask? Chris Hatcher , with a winning % of .864, Hatcher is the winningest coach in NCAA football. To put that in perspective, D1A leader Pete Carroll has a .844 winning %.

Yes, it is at a lower level, but what is so "proven" about all of these other candidates? If we interview Muschamp and don't even call Hatcher I'll be dissapointed as Hatcher brings much more "tangible" to the equation and at the very least equals Muschamp's experience if not excels (D1 asst. vs. D1AA/DII HC), but we know Hatcher is a winner and nothing puts asses in the seats more than winning.

He took over a VSU program that went 4-7 the previous year and took it to 10-2 in his first year. He took over a GSU program that went 4-7 the previous year and took them to 7-4, missing the playoffs by a FG.

This guy wakes up in the morning and pisses EXCELLENCE!

He also brings some recruiting experience in the Southeast. He could give UF, Half ass U, Auburn and the Nadlickers a problem in that area.

If we ignore him, i promise you it will come back to bite us.

No. His name is Larry Kehres, the HC at Mount Union College. 246-20-3, .920.

Wow, the guy has won 17 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships....

Well, I guess the guy that introduced him at the Macon TD club and wikidpedia are wrong. Maybe just D11 and up then. I stand corrected.

I'll support whoever Rad choses, but in defense of Hatcher, what have all of the leading candidates "proven" that is so awesome?

Edsall: (41-51) wow = .45 winning %.

Muschamp: He can field a top defense w/ a squad that is over 1/3 All Americans, breaks and bleeds on chalk boards and yells a lot, wow.

Neuheisel: 3 really solid years which came in his first years at each school w/o his own players. Left each program much worse off that before he came and each team did worse the longer he syated. wow.

Now, I could live w/ any of the 3 above and would accept any of them, I'm just putting everything in perspective is all. I'll be happy w/ just about anybody at this point.

And I beleive he would not vault Tech for the next good job. With ties in this area he would be a big plus.

Those losses came when UConn had just made the jump to D-IA. Even in the Big East, I would say UConn has done much better than other schools who just become mediocre Sun Belt teams.

Exactly.

I imagine if Hatcher took GSU to D-1A abruptly then his record would suffer considerably, at least for a time. You have to take into consideration the team and situation the coach is under at the time as well as the level of competition they are facing.

I don't know if he can or can't get the same results at the next level, but it isn't a given. Donnan did pretty well at Marshall and pretty mediocre at UGA.

Also, a lot of those losses came when he was DIAA but playing D1A schools I would guess...Plus, you know how we use to like to play them as one of our 3 guaranteed wins so we could get our 7 win season. I'm sure they were scheduled as cream puff games for bigger programs in order to get a pay check too.

I get your point though, its not entirely fair and he has built a good program there, but the numbers hold true.

As DRAD said, this isnt as much about wins and losses....Im sure Edsall is a strong Head Coach- Can he and his system excite GT people, Atlanta, people etc to buy tickets to see entertainment at the same time as winning 8 games? Thats the question. Dynamic? Im just not sold on that at this stage and where GT is at after Braine/Gailey. Gailey won- but boring as crap and nobody came to see the games. How do we fill it up? With a passionate, exciting HC who brings a dynamic philosophy- Sold on Edsall's credentials- no doubt about that. Not sold on excitement and filling up BDS every game with a regular offense. We will win more than 7-8 with OFFENSE (Friedgen proved that)

I agree prevent...but one can also argue that our best offensive years came under defensive HC's and vice versa.

Not really...he's been there for 8-years and they made the jump a year or two ago right?

Most of those losses came when he was DIAA but playing D1A schools I would guess...you know how we use to like to play them as one of our 3 guaranteed wins so we could get our 7 win season.

They made the jump in 2000. He was only a I-AA HC for 1 year. His record that year was 4-7. His record since then is 46-47. He's had 3 years of 8 or more wins (2003, 2004, 2007) in that time, and 4 years of less than 6 wins (2000, 2001, 2005, 2006) in that time.

You caught me before I actually researched it and edited it....

I like this about him...

In the past five seasons, UConn has finished in the national top 20 for total offense (2003, 2004) and total defense (2002, 2005).

But he still ain't my #1

You'd be wrong. He was there for only 1 D1AA season and lost to Kentucky.

As far as being the creampuff for big names...

In 2000, they played Louisville and BC.
2001, Virginia Tech.
2002, BC, GT, Miami (does Vandy count? 28-24L)
2003, 3 losses all season (BC, Va Tech, NCSU), beat Indiana, Rutgers, Wake.
2004, Big East schedule begins.

Thats th 64K Question- Who would be his OC? Ive looked at what they have had the last few years, and style, and its definitely not Spread- its more of a Pro-style. As Godsey was a drop-back, we still ran a dynamic O. Im just curious if he is the one- what type of O will he have that will excite the fan base because in the end that will put people in the stands not just winning 7-8 games...

Oh, and there is Offense and then there is Exciting Offense. Exciting Offense attracts skill players that you may not get or lose out on with plain jane- it can be the difference in getting to the Championship and Selling out BDS.

Check out Hatcher explaining his offensive / coaching philosphy

"One can describe our offense as a well-coached backyard team. We believe in throwing the ball short first, long second, and running the ball when the numbers in the box are favorable. Also, we like to keep things as simple as possible and put our players in a position to succeed."

"If you study the history of football, the most successful teams have always been very simple in their approach to the game. Basically, it comes down to talent and preparation."

"In summary, our goal on offense each week is to score one more point than our opponent. This concept is probably the most important thing we discuss with our
offensive unit."

If you put some of those quotations up with " -- Bobby Dodd" after them, I bet people would believe he said them.

CH is going to make some DI(FBS) team a hell of a coach. I hope it's us.
