All trolling aside after this loss, the team needs to really pick it up. They suffered two back to back road losses last year, though due to defense more than anything at that point. Can they bounce back? At least one of these losses included a loss to a top 10 team as opposed to two unranked teams last year.
We are going to learn a lot about how the rest of our beloved college football fall season is going to go the rest of the way come this Saturday at home vs. UNC.
I would like to point to the quote in my thread title. CPJ said this in camp and we all wrote it off as hype management and coach speak to keep the team motivated. However, I think we are seeing that he was partially telling the truth here. It was up to us not to get fooled and we all did after the first two games.
I think we are also seeing that our backfield on offense isn't as plug and play as we might have thought. Injuries certainly have not helped, but the aback and bback positions are not doing their jobs in the blocking side of things. Is it talent? I don't think so. All of them can do things in space with the ball. You don't need talent to block, see former walkon Godhigh for example. Revered as one of our best blockers to date. I think our guys at skill positions haven't had the reps to know their spots nor the appropriate amount of practice on technique getting their guy down. Unfortunately, some of the pundits were at least a little correct in that only having one starting RB returning would hurt. And it is.
The only position group that has absolutely no excuse is the offensive line. I cannot find a legitimate reason for their sheer suckage. They are the most experienced and talented line PJ has had to date. Even without Shaq. We are deep on the OLine, yet the block themselves rather than the other team. Can this get fixed?
We will find out Saturday. Onward. Let's see what they are made of.
