The option play.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">That's right, but some keep clamoring for it. It's not part of any package right now. Was not in the BYU plan, and wont be until later. But it can keep an aggressive team off balance just like we would do vs. FSU in the Freidgen days. Ball is a freshman and has a lot to learn and option is not as easy at it looks.Originally posted by BLACK WATCH:
With Auburn's team speed being very fast..It probably would not be successful..I remember playing Miami in the Gator Bowl..They ate Lil Joe up. The option didnt work when we ran it that game.....Teams with great speed tend to stuff the option....
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">We are in agreement. Actually, Ralph's offense was VERY different when he came back to GT in '97 from the pros than it was during the Ross years. The traditional option was used a lot more with Shawn Jones than Joe Hamilton, but Ball reminds me more of Shawn Jones than Hamilton anyway. We'll see, but you do have to have experience running it and we dont, so I wouldnt really run it unless we are near the goal line where Ball runs it but doesnt have the option to pitch (because of it being prone to turnovers.)It should be a play where he uses his athleticism to get in the end zone. WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN RIGHT AT THEM. THat's about the only option I would have in.Originally posted by ncjacket:
Somebody with a better memory remind me, when did the option become part of the package with JoeHam? I don't remember it being in right off the bat. I know the wishbone set didn't really appear until his jr year. Ralph was always adding stuff as our ability to handle it progressed, I would assume any OC does the same. Assuming Chan is still here and Ball is the QB in 2 years I would predict our offense will look quite different than it does now. You can't install everything all at once.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">You comparing Auburn to Miami? Give me a break will you. This tendency to have our opposition overblown, our coaching overblown, and the willingness to put up with both by the majority of Georgia Tech fans on this board...(hoping the influential fans of Tech that have no desire to participate in these discussions feel otherwise)...blows my mind, the shot coming from this board that my brain is already blown...is an opinion you are entitled to.Originally posted by BLACK WATCH:

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">you know what .. you have totally lost any credibility that you might have garnered in my eyes regarding your acumen of football (not that it matters anyways, to you or me) by comparing the first start of a sophomore with a true freshman.Originally posted by statelinejacket:
First starts by a true sophmore and a true freshman. And your anal-ysis about fall practice does not smell? Compare practice reports from you and others, then reread my thread from practice and see who hit the bullseye buddy and then get back to me.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">What does Bock the Jock or the red nosed Rudolph have anything to do with comparing a true freshman quarterback's start with a sophomore's start?Originally posted by statelinejacket:
Ylojk8: When the seasons and Beau Bock and Coleman Rudolph look a lot smarter than you, will you come off your high horse? Doubt it but just had to ask. Maybe you should buy a Harley and maybe a breeze will blow some common sense into you.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">i am pretty sure that you do not realize the extent of the difference in degrees of inexperience in a true freshman and a sophomore.Originally posted by statelinejacket:
I have already heard them question why Coach Gailey did'nt have Reggie Ball rollout or run some option so that he could make plays running as well as throwing. By the way if you and others had read thru the thread you would have found someone finally understood the point I was making. nathogt realized that the Colorado coaches did'nt focus on their true sophmores inexperience and allowed him to do what was neccessary and within his ability to win the game. I am pretty sure Coleman, Bock, and coaches all across Georgia as well as mine at Dalton will understand that point whether you do or not.

Ylojk8: Philip Rivers, true freshman...started every game and completed 237 out of 441 passes for 3054 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Completed 29 of 57 passes for 397 yards and 3 touchdowns in his first start which was also N.C. States opening game of the year. Psst....Don't tell anyone but Rivers was a true freshman.
