1st - Tech gave him job security during a tenuous time....He is currently employed by Tech.

Now I understand the whole idea of looking out for your family, trying to get a career track going blah blah...And frankly, I buy that..We all probably do that..Normally I don't give it a second thought when someone leaves, because I DO understand that its a business...

BUT

#2 - He has now had three interviews in a couple of months - all very public...Clearly it wasn't BOB who turned down the Vikes, but he simply didn't get the job....Any doubt he would have taken it ?

#3 - He did the above during VERY critical times, first disrupting recruiting, and now, just as we are on the verge of spring practice....

#4 - Because HE (BOB) has created an unclear situation by this constant interviewing process, its become clear that he wants out..Fine...

Honestly, if I was CG ( and admittedly I'm a "hot" reactor), I'd have a VERY serious chat with BOB, and if he couldn't make a 1 year committment, I'd find another OC.In fact, I'd be tempted to go ahead and do it anyway.....after all

its a business isn't it ????? I mean, BOB can't have it both ways - either the job is a "business" or its not...If so, it seems to be in the best interests of Tech to get another OC right now, and not run the risk of BOB leaving at a critical time ( like the week before Spring practice)

The way its shaping up now, BOB is in total conrol of the situation..I think thats too unbalanced, and no one should have that kind of power over an organization, I don't care HOW good they are.......

part of Billy's problem is public relations. He is his own worst enemy. For someone who studied under fridge he did not learn everything.

Look at the way Fridge handled the GT and TB offers.

He listened then he immediately w/i 24 hours put out the word that he was staying. The problem with Billy is he lets these things drag on.

I understand the Minn situation that would be a Pro OC job which is a great opportunity. But I think the QB coach job is a tougher sale. Billy needs to step up now and tell us he is staying. If he doesn't then he has no one to blame but himself with regard to all the negative comments. He should not let GT and the GT fanbase hang in the wind.

I personally think he not going to go, so if that is true he needs to say that. He can tell the people thanks but no thanks.

IMO

Even if he doesn't take this job, he'll leave next year for something else. As you said, I can understand a guy looking out for his family. But CG has got a program to run and this type of thing disrupts the program.

And to me, that's all I care about. I'm a fan of Tech (and an alum). I get mad when something disrupts the program. If BOB wants to look out for himself, then fine. But I want to make sure that someone is looking out for Tech's best interests too.

Just heard on the radio that there was a mistake... apparently he was attending a conference in the New England area (spin doctoring??) .. .but there has been no comment from either CG nor BOB... I agree with you law... someone (BOB) needs to step up to the plate and put things to rest.... or, CG needs to say enough... there are others that can call ball plays...

this whole thing blows my mind, here is a team that went 7-5 during the regular season and lost 3 games it should have won and the coaches are all of a sudden hot comodities, go figure.

I have to agree, Toe, there is an element of comedy in this situation.
I must say it doesn't bother me a bit, this is GOOD publicity, unlike the bio business. Aren't future recruits getting a subliminal signal: "Ga Tech has NFL connections"?
How is it going to hurt that BO'B gets interviewed for jobs? If he goes, CG will hire someone as good.

By the way, WXIA showed a clip of CG telling the State Legislature that he hoped to keep the Bulldog fans seated "for the next several years". Not "in a couple of years" , or "for a while", but for the next several years! He is unintimidated by UGA- that hasn't been true of all our coaches, Pepper R. and Bill Curry to name 2.

Belly,
You mentioned CG is not intimidated by UGA and the like. Why should he be? He's coached all over the country in college and pros. He's coached in Super Bowls and in playoff games. He's a QB from UF of all places.

Also, he's taking over a program that's beaten them 3 out of 4. No reason to be intimidated at all.

Another reason I like this coach. I'm gonna go ahead and make a prediction...CG will be our first coach to see a win over FSU from the sidelines since they joined the ACC. Should have happened last year...but it WILL happen under CG.

Gold Rush you are 100% correct. There really is no excuse for BOB's actions. I really like him as a person and believe he is a good coach, but he is way out of line here. He had his one free pass with the Vikings thing, but if NE came calling he should have told them, I'm not going anywhere, end of story.

I can honestly say that if I was Chan and I heard they had serious discussions about a job, I would have to let him go. Enough is enough, just as GR said in the real world, BOB would have been gone already.

As far as the move to QB coach of the Pats goes, that would be the worst move I could ever imagine. If he has success at GT, he will be on ESPN with Lee and Kirk bragging on him, on ABC with Musberger pumping him up for HC position. Others will proclaim him boy genius.

If he goes to the Pats, he will be coaching for a team that will never match it's success of a year ago. There is no scenario where I see this happening. In addition, there is no way the player(Tom Brady) he is coaching will ever be more well thought of than he is now. Therefore, BOB will never get any praise or mention. He will be thought of as nothing more than Brady's caddy.

I like BOB, but he needs to make a commitment or move on. It's because I like him so much, that I hope he can see what a disaster the move to the Pats would be. Either way, I'm over it now. I'm just ready for GT to move forward.
