Read this article. Very touching and represents why we all love football and sports in general.

Thanks, JacketDude, that is a very moving story.
There is no doubt that whether or not sports builds character, it certainly shows it.

Thank you! Really super story about class and how much this great game we love can really mean.

Everyone in that stadium who witnessed will remember that moment. Awesome!

Great Story! I officiate 4 different high school sports. I saw a situation similar to this in baseball a couple of years ago. A player like the one in this story played at a metro Atlanta high school. It was the final game of his senior year and the coach sent him to pinch hit. The catcher turned to me and said he needed time out to talk to the pitcher. I couldn't figure out why they wanted any special strategy for this batter. The catcher came back and whispered to me that he had told the pitcher to throw a batting practice pitch. The batter hit the ball for a legitimate double. Both teams erupted in cheers for this young man. The best part was the whole plan was the catcher’s not the coach. And no, I did not have dry eyes.

Touching, to say the least. Reminds me of a guy at my High School who played football, but was physically handicapped (his limbs were deformed). He got in a few plays his senior year. I remember my coach talking about it, and he was getting all choked up about it.
