Is anyone else kind of secretly deep down inside pulling for Clemson, Virginia Tech, or FSU to actually be really good this year and be a national contender? It has been so long since the ACC has actually had a team be in the running for the title that I almost wouldn't mind seeing one of them run the table so we can finally get some credibility again.

I only pull for GT and anyone playing the nadlickers. Other than that I don't give a rats arse who wins.

I'd like to see the ACC get its crap together, hopefully in the form of GT kicking some ass at a BCS bowl. But I've got nothing in particular agianst VT or Clemson (hell, I kind of like those hillbillies, good friendly rivalry there :)).

A good Tech mans loyalty should be the following places:
1. Pull for Tech
2. Pull for whoever is playing the hydrant humpers
3. Pull for ACC (or whatever conference we happen to be in), because it means more money for us.

After that, let your conscience and your hate be your guide.

Amen, refrigeratormover. My sentiments exactly. This man knows what he is talking about. He is a Jacket through and through. I will never forget sitting the the old North stands and watching him put the Frig on his arse. Go Jackets!!! and Jackets only!!

What he said. If I see an ACC team beating someone I like it only because its helps build GT's cred. Other than that, does matter to me.

With one exception, I pull for the ACC teams because they represent academics as well as athletics. In other words, these are real universities who invest a lot in the future of America.

Now, if we could somehow trade FSU for the University of Florida, I would have no exceptions.

I feel like unless the ACC elevates its standing a little then it doesn't matter how good we are. If the rest of the nation thinks our conference sucks then GT will never have a chance. It says a lot when 2 2-loss SEC teams both have valid claims to be able to play in the national title. There's no way that would happen right now in the ACC.

Perception matters a lot with the BCS and right now the perception of the ACC is not a good one.

I hope clemson goes 12-1 (one loss coming to us :))

The ACC needs a title contender.

I pull for every ACC team when they play out of conference. I hope we have at least two very good teams play in the ACCCG (one being Tech obviously) and that we get two in BCS bowls and fill the rest of our bowl slots wity quality teams who go undefeated against the world. Being the best in a bad conference isn't as good as being the best in a top league. That's what I'm looking for.

I've always pulled for the ACC against out of conference. You have to, since your pretty much voted to the championship. You don't control your own destiny in college football. Not to mention it seems like every asshole, dog fan has adopted Florida's and LSU's championships as their own. It'd be nice to see the SEC knocked off their high horse.

No. I don't mind if they're good, and I want them to win OOC, but I'm not pulling hard for them to win it all.

It kind of creeps me out how often ncjacket posts my exact thoughts before me.

I'll generally give a mild, passing interest in the ACC out of conference games, for the credibility and SoS boosts for Tech.

My real question is this - in a hypothetical situation that would probably never ever happen, would you want Tech to lose a game if it hurt UGA? In other words, what's stronger, the love for Tech or the hatred for UGA?

This is a great question. It is one that has been posed and pondered between myself and my best friends many a time.

I can only speak for about 1982 and on. The hypothesis that is most accepted in my circles is that alumni that were students between '82 and '89 hate ga more than they love Tech.

By the transitive property, the hypothesis is that those that graduated from '90 on, love tech more than they hate ga.

I am picking that break point for two reasons. Title and decade break. It seems natural.

I could type some examples of this subject but,...... nah.

but aren't they demonstrating their love for tech by hating GA?

depends how our record was at the time. if we were not bowl eligible regardless of the outcome of the game, then yes.

Never. I have never hoped for Tech to lose in any sport and can't imagine a situation where I would. I mean, we tied ND and handed them a shot at the national championship but I was delirious about hanging in for that tie.

I'm sorry. Please don't even begin to fool yourself into thinking that ugay had a half decent argument for playing for the title. No matter how you break down the argument, every scenario left them on the outside looking in. The best argument any of them had was that they were ranked no.4 and just about, if not everyone in front of them lost, meaning that they would move up. However, they fail to realize that there is plenty of precedent for idle teams to be leapfrogged or even dropped.

UGA had more of a claim than did any ACC teams. And I would also say that the way OSU has been manhandled lately that UGA v. LSU would have been a better game to watch...
