1) That was the wettest I've ever been at a game. I was soaked from head to toe. My wallet was soaked. My underwear was soaked. And I was wearing a pancho. For those of you who didn't have raingear...how did you survive?

2) To a small minority of you...please clean up your mouth at these games. People have small children and even babies at these games. I heard quite a few BS, MF, GD. I'm not down on anyone for saying that stuff...but just don't yell it out so loud...particularly with kids around.

3) Clemson fans are a nice group. I wasn't even hassled the slightest bit. Obviously, the rain hurt attendance. That's normal. But they had a spirited crowd. Also, I thought we showed up well.

4) Chan screwed up on the timeout. We all know that. I think he knows it too. Still, you've got to give Willie credit for making the right decision and flipping that pass to the receiver.

5) As has been well-documented, we should have gone to Hollings more in the first half. That guy is a stud. He has the size, strength and speed of Robert Edwards. If we use him alot, he's gonna break all our rushing records.

6) How many 2nd and 1's turned into 3rd and longs?

7) What's up with all the 5 wideout, no RB sets? I hated that formation.

8) I think in general, our offense lacks some imagination at times. Maybe we were spoiled with the Fridge. The beauty of our '97 to '00 offense was the unpredictability. OTOH, I wouldn't have minded just pounding Hollings all day until they proved they could stop him.

9) Our defense made some adjustments in the 2nd half. That allowed us back in the game. We weren't dominant and we didn't get pressure on Woody. But we kept the game close when it could have gotten out of hand.

10) What can you say about special teams? It was awful.

11) I'm not into moral victories. I think that as a program, we are beyond that. However, I was proud of our boys for hanging around and having a chance to win at the end. We really had no business winning that game. But we almost did.

12) Bottom line: When you get 4 turnovers at midfield and get ZERO points, you don't deserve to win.

13) I think that with their new defensive coordinator, Clemson has positioned themselves to be a big-time player once again in the ACC. The fact is that they've been up and down for about the last 10 years. But now, they're playing defense again. They're not a great team, but they're pretty darn good. They will lose in Tallahassee, but after that, they have a chance to run the table.

14) Let's keep it positive. One loss is not going to break our backs. We've still got 9 games left. We've still got all our tough conference games, plus UGA and BYU. We still have alot of talent. Maybe we suffered from the effects of a bunch of new coaches. Maybe we suffered from the rain. It's hard to tell.

I hate losing to Clemson. But in a strange way, I can take this loss better than last year's Woody-QBDraw debacle.

Let's keep it positive. The season is a long way from over.

I was without raingear and from the sounds of it you didn't escape any better :-)

My thoughts.

Play calling sucked. BOB is not as bright as I thought. Perfect example. Second and 1 at the 50 we go to four wide reciever set...Suggs sacked 3rd and 13 we punt. On the VERY NEXT POSSESSION...hollings runs for nine. 2nd and 1 on the 50 and what the F*^* do we do? Play action...Suggs sacked 3rd and 10 we punt. BOB needs to get his head checked. Hollings should have been handed the ball 40 times. No one could stop him. Only BOB stopped him.

Had we smashed mouth we would have won. Pure and simple. We simply forced the damn pass all day.

Also another bad coaching move. As much as I like Rhino he is not good for 3rd and very long. Two examples. Clemson put #83 in the slot with a matchup with Rhino. He is tall and fast and it was a HUGE mismatch. Sure enough 15 yard reception first down. On the very next third and long....40 yard reception touchdown...same exact reciever, set, and mismatch. Rhino is great for the 3rd and 5/6 type plays...but on third and 15 where the ball is going deep, I think we should put a corner that can match up better sizewise down the field. Otherwise what a great pick by Rhino though...I love the kids heart, just downfield I think he is overmatched.

I don't even want to talk about the time out debacle.

I see us hiring a sp teams coach is really paying off huh?

Finally...I watched a team with no urgency, no physical toughness and NO discipline out there. When our kids get smacked in the mouth...where the hell is the fight back? Remember the big uglies like Stimson and Tarplin. Man they wouldn't put up with that crap.

All of the above are coaching related. And can be fixed. We have the talent...we need better discipline and we have to coach toughness. We need meanstreaks. We need more fire.

I watched FSU and even though their D isn't the best; when they hit you they HIT you. They go helmet to helmet and pop you. We don't do that. Why? Many questions...lots of answers needed. Many answers can be found next game. But if there isn't much improvement...I will be one pissed fan.

Howdy Gold Rush,

At this point I don't want to pile on too much. I think it's pretty clear that the coaching and execution was just awful. I'm of the belief that the game was a fluke and we just had a real bad day. However, in terms of playing to our ability, that was one of the worst GT performances I can remember. IMHO, I really like BOB a lot, but so far in his career it seems as if he is a below average game-planner. That is now the case, until he proves otherwise. Perhaps, we were spoiled by Friedgen.

It seemed as though we didn't have a lot of confidence that Hollings could run the football against their fronts designed to take him out of the game. I guess we just assumed this to be the case and designed a game plan that would attack them through the air. It is pretty tough to swallow constant 4 and 5 wide sets when your RB has over 100 yards on a 1/2 dozen carries.

The Fridge always set things up with the ground game. Even if you only get 2 or 3 yards against an 8-man front you are setting the defense up for stuff later. The sad thing is, we weren't just getting 2-3 yards, we were getting 4-6 yards, yet we spent most of the time throwing the ball out of obvious passing formations. Pretty tough to swallow.

After the game, I saw O'Brien throw his headphones down in disgust. I think he knows better than anyone, he really stunk up the valley on Saturday. Although, there was plenty of blame to go around.

I'm looking forward to Saturday. Still plenty of games to win, but it's disappointing when you beat yourself.

I agree with all of the above.

As far as BOB and game planning, I agree; thus the bowl last year is even more perplexing....
Maybe that was the fluke not the norm....(?)

Also, maybe last year wasn't so much GOL micromanaging as we all assumed, but simply BOB's game plans.........Something I hadn't considered till sat

One thing I really do agree with - and hope - that Sat was a big fluke......we'll see soon enuf....

GT wins the game if it runs #24 Hollings 35-40 times. BOB outsmarted himself with all the passing. Why does one pass so much in a rain game anyway? The coaches overreacted to the step up in competition IMHO.

No pressure on Simmons. Nickel defense was another case of outsmarting ourselves.

We had our ponchos on and still got completely soaked head to toe. Miserable drive home to Canton with wet crotch and soaking wet socks and shoes.

There was no mud whatsoever on the players. It looks like "mud bowls" are a thing of the past with all the sand based fields now. Kind of miss that.

Agreed Bugboy,

The 5 wide set is the worst formation in football. I believe it has it's place, but unless you are a pure "throw it 50 times" type offense it shouldn't show up more than once a game. It really makes things easy on defense.

We really whiffed on the game plan, Friedgen always began things with the run game, that is the way football should be played. I don't care if they are in an 8 man front or not you need to see what you can establish on the ground and then work in the play-action game.

As long as we have BOB lined up in the crosshairs for a pitiful game(300 yds offense and bottom line -no win at end).He is the one who picked Suggs (and coached him) to play EVERY off down. The guy is not a winner. After 2 springs, a redshirt YEAR, 2 warm up games,he doesn't know his dump-off rules or can't,FIVE sacks doesn't get it done .BOB needs to play Bilbo a lot.Heck,we may have lost if Bilbo had QBd.Oh yeah we did LOSE!
