This weekend was my first chance to see the Jackets in person. Wow! What a performance! From thirteen rows up on the west sideline it was impressive to see the organization, enthusiasm, and discipline. Coach Johnson seems to be an excellent game coach, very much in charge.
I liked that the guys seemed to be having fun - of course it is always fun to be up 38-0. I enjoyed watching Michael Johnson all day, but especially when he came over to Josh and Jaybo sitting on the bench together in 4th quarter and, pointing at Jaybo, clearly teased Josh about losing his job. I also enjoyed watching Gardner and other first team O-line, who had their best game of the season, actually do a few up and downs and sing along with Budweiser at the end of the 3rd.
I never have been a "fire the coach" guy, and so was pretty defensive against Gailey critics. But, that's past now and our new Coach is doing good things. I especially appreciate the "buy-in" from players recruited to a system probably better suited to their talents but who are giving the new coaches all they've got - Nesbitt, Dwyer, Jones, and Thomas, to name a few.
Bottom line, a 38-7 win over Mississippi State on a beautiful day at the Flats is worth every one of the 860 miles driven.
