Thoughts on team after today\'s win . . .
1) Very pleasantly surprised with ACE. He runs very hard and always fell forward for an extra couple of yards. He really laid the wood to those small safeties of Carolina after long runs. Ofcourse, he doesn't have Hollings's big play ability, but I thought he turned it outside nicely a couple of times early in the game. Cut back well and found the hole at the line of scrimmage. Overall, I'm impressed with ACE. O-line played well, but let's face it. UNC's front seven on defense are small and inexperienced. Not saying much to push them around. At least we have many more games to prepare to face Ugag's very good d-line (the best I think we'll face).
2) I thought our big 3 receivers (Watkins, Glover and J. Smith) all started to come back to form today. Some good catches in traffic and moves after the catch. Not nearly as many dropped balls.
3) Pass rush has done a 180 degree turn vs. BYU and UNC. Secondary got burned deep over the middle 3 times on 3rd and long. Can't let that happen THAT many times. No way we should be giving up that many yards on 3rd and long. Better to give up a first down on the sideline route than to get burned for 30 or 40 over the middle.
4) Someone down the board (Ahso, I think) mentioned that UNC isn't a very good team. True, but this was an away win in conference. They had 2 weeks to prepare for us also. Obviously, we aren't as good as Texas, who beat them by 31. I think it is fairly apparent now that we aren't going to win the Nat'l Championship. But the wins over the last 2 weeks prove that our coaches don't let us slip up against teams close to us in talent, but who we SHOULD beat. Let's hope the trend continues against Wake.
5) Recruiting-wise, Clemson was a damaging loss. We got a little back in this game. Any kid looking at us and UNC had better take a long look if he wants to play for a winner, as well as get a quality degree. I believe we clearly have the better program.
