Thoughts on the press conference this week?

Feel like we should have a thread for that and the radio show each week to discuss. Love Johnsons attitude about the game, its the same attitude/perspective that the smartest guys in each field Ive ever worked with have, they just "get it." Few things from this week. He talked about having the player do 25 pushups are showing off after a touchdown and "act like you've been there before", great stuff. And did a reporter in the press conference actually ask what cover 2 was?

Are there transcripts of these things anywhere? I'd love to read it but I don't want to really sit through listening to the whole thing.

i liked the part where he came out and said our special teams, aside from kickoffs, have been "atrocious." he speaks his mind, and i love it.

Here is my favorite quote...

"From a play-calling standpoint, if it's working, you are going to have to show me you can stop it. We are not going to stop running the play because we already ran it twice. We don't mark through that one and say, `We did that one.' If we get 10 yards, then it's coming at you again, and again and again. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. It's like I always said: `Physical superiority cancels all theories.' And there are times it is a cat-and-mouse game and the other side is doing the same thing.

I went to hear Peter Lynch speak a long time ago. At the time, he was the most respected investment manager on earth.

Everything he said was so simple and made absolute perfect sense. He made what he did seem like a five-year old could do it. You almost felt dumb for not being able to replicate his results. But at his peak, no one could touch him.

Paul Johnson's interviews/public statements remind me of the Lynch presentation. Simple, uncomplicated, never hesitates to think about how to answer a question. Exact same style as Lynch. CPJ could explain what he does to a five-year old.

That kind of mental clarity is very uncommon.

I think - its around in here somewhere - that CPJ has the 2nd or 3rd highest winning percentage for his first 100 games in the history of college football. Six years of that time were spent at Navy.

Its almost scary to think about what he's going to accomplish here over the next ten years.

This quote about Gardner-Webb sent shivers down my spine:

"They have a wide receiver who is the conference champion in hurdles. . ."

Is he a Heisman candidate?
here you go with the hurdling thing again:laugher:

I'm waiting for the day when some kid 'hurdles' and just gets destroyed by a tackler who saw the chance of a lifetime! Just hope the kid doens't get hurt too badly, maybe enough to get sent out of the game but not season ending or lifetime, God forbid.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about but in the first 12 years of being a head coach in college football CPJ has the 2nd most wins among all coaches. He is only behind Tom Osborne. I think that is very impressive since, like you said, he was at Navy for 6 years.

I LOVE IT! I thought he quit doing that but this is exactly the stance he had at GSU! When GSU won the national champ game against youngstown 60+ to ~21 you would think it was not that big of a deal to the starters. (I admit alot of 3rd stringers were celebrating like no other late in the game because they never expected to play)
