Ths psychology of the team (IMO) and Bilbo....

In a nutshell - I believe that the bottom line is - the team (collectively) has no confidence in the ability of the offense to score.....This ends up having multiple ramifications on the psyche of the team...For the offense, its frustrating for obvious reasons...Then the D gets frustrated because they are on the field all day...and it becomes a cycle.....By the end of the 3rd Q, it goes beyond frustration....and we see the results

At this point, I imagine the outlook is somewhat bleak - the preseason expectations are shot, and confidence is waning.

Wonder what could potentially change this ???

Even if Bilbo didn't have his tremendous upside, athleticism etc etc. - JUST THE CHANGE would create some optimism...and, in a "good case" scenario - lets say Bilbo ignites the team with some big plays and creates a win - ok - what happens to the psyche of the team (whether its "appropriate" or not is completely irrevelant)

Now the team is thinking "WOW - this guy can win - move the ball etc" - AND for the non-seniors, there is HOPE ! Maybe we ARE a good team - just lacked a leader at QB - or whatever....NOW there is something to play for - we could WIN OUT !
I could see the enthusiasm going way up again, for a lot of reasons...."Look what we can do with this QB ! "

I just see it as a no-lose situation..If Bilbo comes in and we don't win - I could virtually guarentee that in the process of losing, he (Bilbo) would have at a minimum made some great plays, again giving reason to have hope for the future, and something to play for.......

I just CANNOT see the downside of starting Bilbo - even if he has a limited playbook (which BTW, I place squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff).......

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Bilbo get more PT. But just where does this insight into the minds of our team come from? I'm sure the kids are disappointed but unless you have some connection to the players you haven't made clear you are just speculating. For all we know (again, unless you have inside info) the team supports AJ.

Personally I think a major part of our problem goes back to our inability to stop power offenses (and yes I include Wake because we couldn't handle their OL). Our front 7 is too small to stand up to the pounding for a whole game. Therefore it is imperative for our offense to stay on the field for long productive drives which ups the pressure to start with. I am guessing the coaches prefer AJ for this type of attack because he makes fewer mistakes than Bilbo. It's much harder to put together drives of 12-13 plays because you can't have a bad penalty, etc. For a combination of reasons, QB play, dropped passes, penalties, we are not controlling the clock and the ball, which leads back to reason #1. Is it pressure to be perfect on all plays that's killing us? I don't know.

BTW, let's just suppose that a player doesn't understand the plays and isn't doing the work to learn them. Is that the coaching staff's fault? Not saying that's what the problem is but neither of us know. Our local pro team, the Panthers is having QB trouble as well. The story out of Charlotte is that Weinke can't even get the reads right when watching film. How is the coaching staff supposed to get in his head and make him understand? If you flunked calculus, was that the professor's fault or yours. I think this is exactly what O'Leary and the Fridge meant about the "light going on" for Joe Ham. Was it their fault he didn't get it his freshman year?

I agree with you. Start Biblo. I think he would be a great shot in the arm for the team. Below is his bio taken from the GT web site http://ramblinwreck.ocsn.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/bilbo_damarius00.html. Even if he falls flat on his face at least we can be assured that CG is willing to try something different. Of course that means he would have to admit to a mistake.

Bilbo Bio:

AT TECH: Highly-regarded quarterback prospect with a strong arm and excellent athletic ability . . . Battled for the starting job in the spring and is expected to share the duties with starter A.J. Suggs...Displayed bigplay ability in the spring but needs to be more consistent... Received a medical redshirt because he played in just one game in 2001 before a recurring thumb injury on his throwing hand . . . Had surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament following the 2001 season.

Impressive bio. Makes you think "this kid's a player." It's up to Chan I guess.

You don't think this team needs a shot in the arm right now ?

Do you think the team has confidence is Suggs ?

Have you noticed the sidelines when Suggs is playing vs when Bilbo goes in ?

You don't think Bilbo would give us some great plays ?

I too say notice the sidelines when DB goes in...it's obvious. The players know a palyer. THWG

Absolutely. There is no downside.WE are going to lose with Suggs against a good team .Bilbo may be the spark.
As I stated previously-gosh,we might have lost by 24 to MD if Bilbo played 90%of the time.
