College football should go back to having ties for regular season games. The overtime rules now make who wins the game too arbitrary and the endings don't do justice to the games. Might as well just flip a coin.

A tie Friday night would've been dissatisfying but would've been closer to the correct outcome.

Obviously self-serving but I have felt the same way watching other games in overtime (e.g. Auburn vs. Texas A&M).

No.
Just don’t do the stupid 2 point conversion thing.
Play football til someone wins.

THIS ..

The original purpose behind the 2 pt award for a converted try for point via a touchdown was to address excessive ties. (The 2 point award was created some time around 1958, per david Nelson's natomy of a game) The coach, down 7, a common situation, most often in the 4th quarter, would decide about a tie versus a win by what kind of try pursued. Now, ironically, with the OT rules, the 2 point is used as a vehicle to CREATE a tie, down 8, which used to be a 2 score game...

In this playoff age, the tie could be a separator in standings, they should bring it back, but they will need an OT in the playoffs (another irony)

The format was fine until there was an overreaction to that once in a decade 7 (I think) OT A&M -LSU game. I bet 95% of games historically are decided by 3OT. The dueling 2 point conversion stuff isn't football.

I love the college overtime rules. It’s a totally fair system. No clock to screw you. No first score to screw you. It’s offense vs defense with special teams playing a huge role, ala, the kicker. What more do y’all want? What we saw the other night was about as exciting a sporting event as anyone has ever seen with the drama and back and forth.

I think we should have agreed to remove the helmets and pads and have them go at it. That would remove any doubt that we thoroughly kicked their asses up and down the field all night.

We were the better team. We lost. But I still like OT rules. Could see it allowing to end in tie but think about November games where teams try to tie to back into playoff or conf title game scenarios.

I’m ok. Let em play ball.

How about dueling kicks in the crotch by coaches or Qbs?

As long as college football is going to have OT, I’d rather they used the pro OT rules. Why? Because it totally sucks and nobody in their right mind would play for OT if they had a chance to play for the win. I liked the frantic attempts to score to win instead of running out the clock to play in OT.
On a somewhat related note, do any of you know how often games end tied in regulation now that we have the desirable OT rules versus how often games ended in ties pre-OT?

I like the ot rules but think it's really dumb that they keep switching sides after the third ot

I noticed on the sat morning show they said that the game came down to penalty kicks, another stupid damn way to end a game.

I agree that overtime has made it arbitrary. I don’t like ties but it’s better than this
