Time to propose some alternative ticket plans for RAD

I've been working on my plan to redo Tech's season ticket sales in a manner that:
    • Is fair to the long term fan and alumni
    • Rewards those who give to Ga Tech
    • Stick it to the visiting fans
For the chairbacks in the East and for seats between the 30's in the lower West require a $600 PSL BUT give a dollar for dollar credit for AT and Roll Call contributions towards the PSL. Continue to use the AT points scheme for seating assignments. For seats in the upper deck between the 40's ditto with a $450 PSL.

Set the base price for all tickets this season at $50/seat UGA, $40/seat ACC games, $30/seat for the warmup games assuming that the person buys season tickets. For individual game ticket sales charge $100 for UGA, $60 for ACC games and $40 for warmup games. (Visiting team tickets may be priced based on the reciprocal year to year agreements for the 7500 seats usually allotted.)

All unsold tickets 2 weeks before the game except for a few holdbacks for last minute sales are given to school football teams, rec league football teams, church youth groups, etc. that are aggressively marketed to and signed up in advance. Although these seats don't produce any ticket revenue they provide an investment in Tech's future, and we all know that these groups would produce significant concession sales, noise and enthusiasm.

Even better, offer these unsold tickets to be "bought" by Tech fans at a steep discount and then donated back to the above type groups. Then the AA gets some revenue (say $10/ticket) and the season ticket holder gets additional tax benefit.

That’s a start. What am I missing?

First, your plan for the donors is stricter than the proposal. Second, the current plan already sets ticket prices at market value (you know what that means, right?). Third, if you've ever read an Atlanta Thrashers board, you'd know that deeply discounting remaining tickets (or giving them away!!!) not only pisses off your season ticketholder base, but it shows you have no clue regarding point #2.

Other than that, you pretty much nailed it.

I don't see your plan doing anything. The seats between the 40's are already forking up thousands of dollars annually.

As stated earlier, I think the tickets should be raised for the good seats and effectively the same natural balancing will occur that Rad wants to happen. I pay $75 a ticket, I think, for Ravens games at the lower level 10 yard line.

I much prefer the Tech-UGA game and would gladly pay similar for the same tickets. The tickets in the middle of the field should be $100.00 and the tickets in the end zone should be $60.00. IF you can get $100.00, then that's fine with me too.

For the big two games or so annually, this will raise about $2.0M extra annually and you'll get the Dawgs to pay the price more than us few helping Tech fans.

Otherwise, anything they do right now to slow down positive momentum in the football program would be incredibly stupid in my opinion.

Guys, what I am saying is, use the AT and Roll Call contributions to apply towards the PSL. In other words, if you give the $600 to the AT already, then you won't have to pay anything for the PSL. Don't put more burden on those already pulling the load. That would make the whole plan palatable to most generous season ticket holders now.

As for the market value/Thrashers point, hopefully the only seats that this would ever apply to are endzone/upper North deck seats or those seats in the corners of the upper East and west that never sell anyway unless its the UGA game. It doesn't really piss me off as a season ticket holder if those seats are "giveaways". Hell, they suck. Before I became a STH, if I was offered tickets in say section 101 or the old North for free I would turn them down. Rather watch on TV.

How is that any different than 'if you give $600 for the PSL, you won't have to pay anything to A-T'?

I think the point is that Rad wants to garner more money from a whole lot of people. If everyone can just use their current giving level then the net effect for Rad is nothing.
