The pickings are getting a little slim it seems.

Coaching Carousel: Neuheisel's baggage a concern
Wednesday, December 5, 2007, 1:04 p.m. ET
The latest scoops and hottest rumors involving major college coaching changes: Georgia Tech
Despite the splash hiring Rick Neuheisel would bring, the school's president doesn't like the baggage that would come along with him.
Navy coach Paul Johnson, who reportedly is interviewing for the position today, and Tech defensive coordinator/interim head coach Jon Tenuta are the top guys.
Duke
The Devils' top two are Boston College offensive coordinator and former East Carolina coach Steve Logan and Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe.
Grambling State coach Rod Broadway is a fallback.
Arkansas
I'm being told Arkansas is going to make one more push to get North Carolina coach Butch Davis.
Tulsa offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, a former Arkansas assistant, also is in the running for the job.
Interim coach Reggie Herring is a fallback.

Where is Hatcher in all of this? Has he seriously been dropped from consideration? This is probably just more hogwash.

:laugher: Haha. True. Still got my money on Hatcher if PJ has accpeted the SMU job.:fingersx:

Agreed. After all the money and energy put into firing Chan and getting a new HC, I'd be dissapointed if Tenuta got the job, no offense to Tenuta.

Hatcher isn't anywhere in this. The only people who want him are readers of GT sports message boards. He has never seemed like a serious candidate.

If it's SMU or GT for Johnson, there is no way he is going to SMU, even if they pay double, that would be a move down from Navy, he is a winner, he wants to win big, in BCS!

Easy for you to say...double? Hard to imagine what I wouldn't do for double my pay.

You might be right there, double is too much, let's just say more, but it seems like he is a fired up guy and would want a good school.

(I did have friends who turned down offers even when they were going to get paid more, but double is a stretch.)

With all things being equal, I would compare SMU with maybe Duke not us. You have to recruit and compete with all of the Texas schools. I guess they still play them. Texas AM, TCU,Texas Tech, Baylor, etc. have had a hard time getting past the longhorns and SMU would have to jump a bunch of programs.

I can't believe Hatcher wouldn't come here as offensive coordinator!

How much does he make as HC for GSU? 400K max?

Why wouldn't he move THREE HOURS down the road for a 200K RAISE??????

What the hell?!?!?!?!?!

The man has been a HC since he was 26!!! I can't say I blame him for not wanting an OC job...why would he hitch his career to a ship that he cannot directly steer himself? If he is all many of us thinks he is, he will stay at GSU for a few years, win big and get picked up by KY when their coach leaves if not for another school sooner...he'll eventually win big there and years from now we will be kicking ourselves in the ass for not hiring him (*cough* Spurrier)...but not me...I'll be saying "I told you so!"
