Bobby Dodd was a GREAT coach, and deservedly a Tech legend, but he was an extreme pessimist as far as Tech athletics. In 1966, when Atlanta got major league sports he announced publicly [ I'm paraphrasing ]: "this will destroy Tech athletics." Ithe mid '60s when Edwin Harrison raised academic standards for athletes, Dodd stated [these are my best memory of his exact words on that occaision]:"Georgia Tech will never again be a major power in football". His statement was unequivical, and people were somewhat shocked, but most people thougt "well that's just Dodd, We know how he is." On the radio call-in show, I forget whether it was Rice's, Curry's last year, or Ross's first, he said that Tech might win 7 games in a good season if every thing went right. Dodd was responsible for Alexander being too small before it even opened, because he thought BB would never amount to anything at Tech. Nobody ever loved Tech more than Bobby Dodd or was more loyal, or did more for Tech. This is just to set the record straight.
