Folks, Only on average of about every other year do we get a player that is rated in the top 100 in the country. So this is sort of a rare occurence. Well guys we got Grant rated #64 and Scott #37. In the southeast Grant rated #24 and Scott #15. This in and of itself is something we can be upbeat about. Congrats all the way around from the coaches and these 2 kids.

Ok, ALL you recruiting doomsdayers hope you've got a big appetite, 'cause you're being served a heapin' helpin' of CROW!

Thanks for those rankings. I'm really excited about these young men coming to GT.

Let's get them all signed, then we can get them into school to see what they're made out of at this level!

GO Jackets!

If moving up to the middle ranks of ACC recruiting deserves eating crow, I'll have 2nds. Scott is a surprise late committ, but we needed many more like him than we are getting.

bobby dodd's ghost, the problem is that you doomsday predicting "natterin nabobs of negativism" are expecting the worst ..

this head coach has no clue. this head coach is letting a rot set under his feet.

you should be expecting the bottom of the ACC in recruiting rankings and you should be expecting the bottom of the ACC in wins.

for us to finish (hopefully we get all the verbals we have as LOIs come feb 5th) with 3 top notch QBs, star safety, RB, CB .. filling our needs in other positions and having a balanced class, should come as a surprise to you because you should be expecting the worst

well, this is FAR from worst .. do you agree? if so, please credit the coaching staff because you have been predicting the WORST.

While Scott is a great pickup, let's not forget that none of these guys have played a down for us yet. Anybody placing alot of importance on recruiting rankings is wasting their time. We have what appears to be a nice class going. Let's complete it by using ALL of our available scholarships and hit spring practice with momentum and try and get those two horrendous losses out of our system. Nice job in Florida Coach!

Those 2 are terrific players & much needed by GT. We sure need another RB in this range. We're still a tad bottom heavy, but Grant, Scott & even Fleuridor really helps this class.
The NOW that can be discussed changes with each new commit. Some drop us down, some lift us up. Some will make it, some won't. We can't talk about, as certain commits, those who have not committed. As each new commit (& hopefully LOI) is added the perception of the class changes. Now we have Scott & Fleuridor to add to the group as a whole & to the committed class discussion. Today's additions certainly ADD to this class.

I guess some people enjoy wallowing in their negativity. Nothing will change that, but couldn't you just give credit where credit is due?? We've got some EXCELLENT prospects in this class. That's all we're saying. The coaches deserve full credit!

Honest question bdg,

When was the last time you saw us land a lot of 4 star players on a consistent basis? What basis do you have for being disappointed? Take a look at the recruiting rankings that we've had over the past decade or so. We've never been great at hauling in consistent top tier classes. For a coach that is coming into his first real recruiting season and off of what many have described as a disappointing season, what did you expect?

I don't mind that you think the class isn't up to your standards but I guess I'm just curious as to what you base that upon.

BDG I sure like to read some of your posts but would you change your name to something like Negativity or GTNegativity. I met BD and I never found him to be negative about anything. My daughter also met him when she was young and still remembers him as being upbeat and not negative at all. So try to look at the positives and down play the negatives.

NCjacket, I will have to disagree with you concerning Bobby Dodd never being negative about GT. In 1989 he was on a show with Homer Rice called Sideline Sports when he predicted that Tech could never be competitive with Auburn and UGA and he blamed the deficiencies in high school academics as the reasons. He went on to say that if Tech was located in Pittsburg that they could and would be successful because the academics in their high schools were much superior than they were in the south. The very next night Coach Ross was on his radio call in show when one of the callers ask Coach Ross about Dodd's remark and he answered that he disagreed with Dodd's remark and then went on to say "I don't want to sound arrogant but I intend to show everyone that it can be done" and he did it the very next year. Bill Curry said on many occasions that it was Bobby Dodd that advised him to take the Alabama job because he could not be competitive with Tech's rivals.
That is about as negative as you can get.

BigBuck .. Dr. B has pointed this out to you before but here it is again.

You do realize that Bobby Dodd passed away in 1988? he couldn't have been on a radio show in 1989 unless it was Bobby Dodd's Ghost.

hmmmm .. 1989 and a negative Bobby Dodd .. it MUST have been BobbyDoddsGhost

Big Buck, I have heard some about that interview but never heard it. All I can say is that I personally never heard him approach anything except in a positive way. He epitomized the attitude that if you expect good things to happen they will. Everybody has their moments I guess.

Fwiw, I'd suggest a good Chardonnay with that crow, there are some really good Australian ones out there!

Bobby Dodd was a GREAT coach, and deservedly a Tech legend, but he was an extreme pessimist as far as Tech athletics. In 1966, when Atlanta got major league sports he announced publicly [ I'm paraphrasing ]: "this will destroy Tech athletics." Ithe mid '60s when Edwin Harrison raised academic standards for athletes, Dodd stated [these are my best memory of his exact words on that occaision]:"Georgia Tech will never again be a major power in football". His statement was unequivical, and people were somewhat shocked, but most people thougt "well that's just Dodd, We know how he is." On the radio call-in show, I forget whether it was Rice's, Curry's last year, or Ross's first, he said that Tech might win 7 games in a good season if every thing went right. Dodd was responsible for Alexander being too small before it even opened, because he thought BB would never amount to anything at Tech. Nobody ever loved Tech more than Bobby Dodd or was more loyal, or did more for Tech. This is just to set the record straight.

If finishing in the bottom 1/3 of the conference recruiting makes some of you happy, then so be it. Mediocre football is not what I am looking for, however. Gailey, and this recruiting class, are mediocre at best. Some of you look at 2 or 3 prize commits and say whoopie, I'm looking at the entire class and wonder what should have been. Don't forget our recruiting class from last year, either. We had to have a super class this time, both in numbers AND talent, and we didn't.
.
For those of you that like to use recent Tech Football history as a crutch, stop it! Tech football has had one really good season in the last decade. Why should the other nine years be our standard instead of the one. Tech football should be in the top 20 every year. It should be in the top 1 or 2 slot of the ACC each year. It should beat UGA 50% of the time. Just because it hasn't done that in most of our lifetimes doesn't mean that it shouldn't happen. Tech Football for decades meant the best! Too many of you easily settle for average. What we have now is average, and many of you are just fine with that. Not me! I expect Tech Football to return to it's destiny, the beacon of Southern college football. Some of you, however, find it acceptable to lose to the likes of Wake and Fresno State.

I'm not pointing out anyone and singling anyone out. This place is too negative for me.

With all the hard work that goes into this board by the admins it's a shame.

It's just so easy to be critical. Having answers is a lot more difficult. The past is the past. I live today for the future.
