Some of you old-timers (ahso and such):

Was there any program that was consistently more powerful than Tech in the early 50's? Maybe ND or Oklahoma? I saw that we lost a total of only 7 games from 1951-1956. Man, that is quite a dynasty.

Oklahoma was good, but the Big 8 was not. They used to call them "Oklahoma and the Seven Dwarfs". ND had some bad years in the '50s. Maryland won an MNC in '54(?). Ohio State had some good teams back then,. and the Big 10 really dominated the national press. Those GT teams were among the cream of the SEC (and thus the country) Tennessee had some great clubs in the '50s, too, running the single wing.

It will be interesting to see where they put Dodd. Personally I think he should be #1, but they probably won't feel that way. Anyway, he definitely should be in the top 5.

WOW!! great site adamni, thanks.
And thanks to you other posters: there has been some great stuff on StinGTalk lately.

Well...I've seen the whole list for the Top 50. They originally had Dodd in the low 30s. I did a bit of
lobbying and got him bumped up into the Top 20. He's not as high as GT fans would like but I did
what I could. There are some great coaches at the top of that list.

Good work, Cracker Jacket, and welcome to the board! I'm sure there are some great coaches at the top, but how could there be more than 10 coaches that were better than Dodd? Oh well, what do those jokers at Pigskin Post know, anyway?

ahso, Cracker Jacket writes columns for Pigskin Post. Here is a link if you want to read some of the columns that he has written.

well guys I'm an old guy and have been watching since the mid 40's and I'll tell this for a fact. Yes Ok had a longher streak than Tech but remember we were in the SEC and not the Ok and 7 drawfs (sp) league. ND under Leahy was mighty good for sure, u mentioned BAMA but look at their record against Tech in the 50's. SCal wasn't even on the map then. Who was better than Tech year in year out in the 50's NOBODY. If you don't believe me ask Gold Rush his dad played in those days.
