Actually he got an OVI (Operating Vehicle under Influence). It was a misdemeanor offense.

He has been suspended for one game.

What part of misdemeanor suggests not being arrested?
He was released to Cardale but he was arrested. From the first line of the ESPN article:
Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has been suspended one game after being arrested early Saturday morning on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated near campus.

What is the difference b/w OVI and DUI? They just didn't feel like giving him a DUI or is there some legitimate reason to choose one over the other?

No idea. But I would imagine it was something created by the Columbus, OH legislature for police to give to OSU players so that they don't get charged with a DUI.

The way I read it, OVI = DUI in Ohio. The tolerance level for <21 is .02%, and first offense is a mandatory 72 hours in jail, a fine, and jail time - all subject to DUI school. In Ohio, OVI/DUI is not considered a felony until your 4th OVI.

The athletic director is an idiot for trying to squash this. even if this is a misdemeanor, it is still Barrett's second violation of the drug and alcohol policy. He should be out for at least two weeks and the AD basically gave him a pass.

that is what ohio calls it. Its exactly the same as a dui....a misdemeanor arrest etc. some states call ovi, some dui, some just dwi etc. Also age dictates the level

in georgia under 21 you have to be under .04
over 21 .07

in ohio I think its .02 and .07...

Yeah, Ohio calls them OVIs instead of DUIs.

The limit in Ohio and here in Georgia is .08 for over 21 and .02 for under 21.

Ok yes. .08. Not sure why i have .04 in my mind. Is that the limit the officer can use his discretion and .08 is the limit he had to arrest?

Edit. Nevermind. .04 is commercial driver limit
 
I love all you righteous warriors calling for this guys head. It is alcohol. He was well below the normal limit for DUI. Guy probably had a beer and drove home.

Don't act like you haven't done the same or worse countless times in your miserable little lives.
 
Appears, from reports I heard on tv, player was given punishment as stated, per policy, by school. No decision made by Meyer at all.

Wonder why another schools policies has such an impact on GT fans?

Is it somehow tied to an sec bias thing?

Mostly it's the thought that the football program could never get away with under-punishing due to the policies of the school administration, so there's resentment if a high-profile school does it.

Please point me in in the direction of those calling for his head.

Also, normal limit for DUI is .08 for 21+, .02 for <21. He was .08, well above the normal limit for <21 and exactly at the limit for 21+.

Hmmm, seems like there is still some swirl. From what I've read, the AD deferred to Meyer who served a single game suspension. I'm sure it will all settle in the next few days.
