Georgia Tech’s signing day got off to a strong start, with 6-foot-6 offensive tackle Nick Claytor of Gainesville among the first to fax in his letter-of-intent and quarterback Josh Nesbitt of Greene County High School in Greensboro and safety Morgan Burnett of North Clayton High School and College Park joining him within the first 20 minutes.
Cornerback Mario Butler of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., signed quickly, too, as did running back Roddy Jones of Chamblee, offensive lineman Joseph Gilbert of Cartersville, offensive lineman Clyde Yandell of St. Augustine, Fla., and linebacker Kyle Jackson of McDonough.
Tech reached back to Tampa’s Jesuit High School to sign cornerback Michael Peterson from the alma mater of offensive tackle A.J. Smith and returner Andrew Smith. Peterson originally committed to Boston College.
Wide receiver Tyler Melton of Houston became Georgia Tech’s 10th signee.
Roommates Derrick Morgan, a star defensive lineman from Coatesville, Pa., and Steven Threet, a quarterback from Adrian, Mich., made it 12 shortly after 8 a.m. Both enrolled early at Tech.
Tech’s class reached 14 with the addition of two big names, defensive end Jason Peters of Baton Rouge, La., and wide receiver Willie White of Camden County High School in Kingsland.
Linebacker Albert Rocker of New Market, Ala., became Tech’s 15th signee.

Is now at 18
Georgia Tech’s signing class moved close to completion with the additions of Dawsonville defensive lineman Logan Walls and Wrightsville linebacker Brad Jefferson

Looks like the only letter left out is DJ Donley.

This rocks! Wonder how many of these guys will be able to play as true freshman.

I'm psyched for FB season - Bring on the g.d. Golden Domers, Thug U, and the butt-lickers!

One of the most heralded football signing classes in Georgia Tech history has been completed with the signing of safety/wide receiver D.J. Donley of Folkston and cornerback Jerrard Tarrant of Carrollton.

Nice to see that all our "verbals" gave us their word & delivered...not many schools are in same situation....
I will enjoy watching UGA lose a few more w/ some flip/flopping going on. It will also be interesting to see if King can get his SAT score up to sniff...I mean snuff...his brother assures the dawg nation "he'll get it"

Excellent work by the coaches, and especially Chan, in not letting the flirtation with the NFL cost us. To lose only one of the verbals in a quality class like this one is great. Now, CG will have to convince the Class we sign next year that he is not waiting for an NFL offer, but is recomitted to Tech.

a good group. but lets not stop it now. keep it up next year. plus i do hope they pan out on the field.

For your enjoyment ramblin_man:

-As Georgia coaches feared, Columbus offensive lineman Antwane Greenlee had a last-minute change of heart and signed with Florida State.

Chris Little hasn't announced yet but he was a silent commit to UGA, until now. Apparently he is great friends with Greenlee and will most likely not end up at UGA.

Two comments here...

1) This may be splitting hairs but we didn't "lose" a verbal commitment. We rescinded a scholarship offer (and perhaps the young man was going to change his mind but we didn't give him the chance so we get the have the high ground ;))

2) I was there this morning and while I can't know what's in another man's mind and heart I can say that Chan Gailey was VERY much the Georgia Tech head coach today. He looked and sounded and acted like he is totally commited to Georgia Tech. It's hard to pinpoint any one thing but I definitely got the impression that this job is his total focus and he's very happy being here and wants to be here.

Let's not forget that he had made it clear before this year that he would be interested if the Steelers or the Dolphins called. It was a strange quirk that both happened to have openings in the same year. He listened and was interested and was very open and honest about that with all the recruits and their families. He was also open and honest with the current players and they all knew what was happening, or at least as much as Chan knew himself.

When next year comes and he speaks to recruits and they ask him about his NFL aspirations he'll likely tell them that those two franchises are still of interest to him because of his history there and the relationships he has with them both. He'll also probably tell them his feelings about other jobs and when those players and families talk to some of our CURRENT players and families (including the class that just signed their Letters of Intent today) they will all say that when Chan Gailey tells you something you can take it to the bank and they'll appreciate his honesty and either want to play for a man like that or they will appreciate his honesty and not want to take the risk that in 3 or 4 years that one of those franchises might come calling again.

I don't think his flirtation with the NFL THIS year will hurt us in recruiting next year's class. I think we've got some very smart people in charge and they are not afraid of competing with the big boys for recruits and they have a pretty good idea of how to sell this program. One comment that Chan made was that this past year was just our first year with our new recruiting plans in place and look at what we accomplished. We fully expect to get better at it now that we have a year under our belt.
