Has anybody else started looking at accommodations for the Ole Miss game in Oxford?
So far, it's brutal. Best deals seem to be 25 miles outside of town. Pretty much everything in town, and there isn't a lot to start with, is booked.
We had The Graduate recommended to us. They've got rooms left. At $1,400 a night.
Pass.
Our plan is to fly into Memphis and then get hotel shuttle or Uber to whatever hotel we wind up finding. But then if we have to stay 20-plus miles out of Oxford, our next problem is getting from hotel to game, because we're likely not going to rent a car. We've been invited to an Ole Miss tailgate already, so at least that's covered.
Anybody else running into hiccups three months out from kickoff at The Grove?

Pinch a tit and go camping.

I’d drive the night before or morning of. Lets you take everything you could need & you don’t have to worry about rentals, Ubers, etc. since you are going to be 20 miles out anyway.

That’s how game weekend are in Oxford.

The best possible deals are renting out a whole house and splitting it 4-6 ways.

The locals leave town on game weekends and rent out their homes.

In 2016 I stayed at the Holiday Inn for the GASO game. That room was $1000 total for Friday and Saturday.

Clarksdale is another fun little place...... Have stayed at Morgan Freeman's "Ground Zero Blues Club," and just down Highway 61 is the Shack Up Inn.

They have a few lower echelon national chains as well.

Aside from the blues/juke joints, you gotta go to Red's for the show after GZBC closes.

Or you could be lucky like YeOldeDeepSnap and SWMBO & be staying with an old friend in Oxford.

My sister went to Ole Miss, and yes, game weekends and graduation weekend is always a nightmare. We’ve stayed in Batesville, Holly Springs, and Memphis. Always just drove in though. The drive from Atlanta isn’t too bad

probably already all booked but check Batesville, is the "well-developed exit you see on the freeway around and hour out of town " where the town in Memphis

Grenada is another 30 minutes south of that, Senatobia is north about that but probably not as built up

I checked out of curiosity, a lot still available, maybe book a backup & continue looking, Batesville is 25 miles away, also about that to Clarksdale and a straight quick shot to the MEM airport

added some

How far is it from Tunica on gameday? I have tons of points at that Harrah's and could fly to Memphis and stay there. Would it be a ridiculous Uber?

Without looking it up maybe an hour/hour and a half

What you could do if you wanted specifically to go to Tunica would be to drive to a Walmart or something closer in and Uber from there

I could obviously rent a car, but let's just say I'd rather not be driving lol

Ah, my first visit to Oxford! It was a splendid experience that left a lasting impression on me. As I arrived in this historic city, I couldn't help but be in awe of its magnificent architecture and the sense of intellectualism that permeated the air.

Walking through the streets, I found myself surrounded by towering buildings adorned with exquisite details, each one seeming to hold centuries of knowledge within its walls. The cobbled streets beneath my feet echoed with the footsteps of countless scholars who had walked these paths before me.

The famous colleges of Oxford, steeped in tradition, stood as guardians of wisdom and learning. I had the privilege of visiting several of these esteemed institutions, each with its unique charm and character. The grandeur of Christ Church College, with its impressive Great Hall that seemed straight out of a fairy tale, took my breath away.

Exploring the Bodleian Library was a highlight of my visit. The sight of row upon row of ancient books, meticulously preserved over the ages, was a testament to the intellectual legacy of Oxford. As I walked through the Bodleian's hallowed halls, I could almost feel the weight of centuries of knowledge resting upon my shoulders.

The city's vibrant atmosphere captivated me. Students from around the world filled the streets, their youthful enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity creating an energy that was palpable. Cafés and bookstores dotted every corner, inviting me to indulge in literature and engage in conversations with like-minded individuals.

One cannot speak of Oxford without mentioning the peaceful meandering of the River Thames, which gracefully winds its way through the city. Strolling along its banks, I felt a sense of tranquility and contemplation, as if the river itself whispered the secrets of centuries-old wisdom.

My time in Oxford left an indelible mark on my soul. It was a journey that ignited my passion for knowledge, inspired me to explore new horizons, and appreciate the beauty of learning. Oxford, with its intellectual legacy and enchanting charm, will forever hold a special place in my heart.
