Turnover Improvement

"So based on Navy’s numbers immediately following Johnson’s arrival, the Yellow Jackets of 2008 were well ahead of the curve, though I’m certain the smartest coach in college football wasn’t too pleased with the 20 fumbles from a season ago. And the 2009 Navy offense will return nearly every player that took the triple-option flexbone crash course last season."

In 2002 Navy also had 35 total turnovers in 12 games (25 fumbles and 12 INT's).

In 2003 and 2004 combined the turnover rate was slightly less than half of the 2002 rate: only 36 turnovers in 25 games.

From 2003-2008 Navy was #8 in fewest offensive turnovers per game. UF, WVU and USAFA were also in the top 10. Option offenses are great at holding onto the football, once past the initial learning curve.

It's also worth noting that Dave Wommack has consistently generated a lot of takeaways. In four of his 6 seasons, Wommack's D has produced 29+ turnovers. Tenuta's career high is 28.
