Two thoughts (one good, one not)...

First, the not good thought. I feel horrible for Booker. Kid has been working his behind off for a long time, transfers to Tech for more PT then gets stuck behind an incumbent starter then inherits an offense he doesn't fit into but always shows heart, dedication and teamwork. Finally gets his shot and it just wasn't to be. Gotta feel bad for the young man.

Second thought. I think CPJ meant to hang the team out to dry yesterday to teach them a lesson going into Clemson week. I believe he saw yesterday coming even if he was playing with fire I think it turned out worse than he expected. I suspect he was more "in control" of the outcome than it seemed at times.

I could be wrong but think by the five minute mark of the Clemson game, I'll have a better idea of whether I am or not.

I don't care how "in control" he is of the outcome, they had a very makable field goal at the end to tie it. Unless he was going to go out and block it himself, he didn't have very much control. I think by the five minute mark of the Clemson game, we'll all have a better idea of just how much an option QB means to this system.

I don't have a good feeling about the Clemson game. They are big and quick on the defensive line, however the whole Clemson team might tank just because they are tired of Bowden. This game could go ugly for Tech, or just perfect. Wouldn't bet this game for anything!

You may be right, but do you really think Clemson is that much better than Mississippi State, Boston College, or Virginia Tech (despite our loss to them)? I don't, and I think if we have 1 of the TWO quarterbacks who couldn't go yesterday, we have a good chance to win on Saturday.

Let's not toss out how good we've looked most of this season just because we had one embarassing game yesterday.

LOOK! Its Clemson, Its Death Valley, and they owe us one from last year. They will not lay down! We better be ready.

That's exactly what I've been saying. Don't throw out all these boys have done thus far.

There's two reasons I think we'll beat Clem. One, they really are that bad this year. Two, I don't think Coach Johnson is the type to let the loss happen as it would have with Gailey here. With Gailey, this weekend is a loss for sure, and the slow march to seven would go on.

My big concern is that Clemson knows all they have to do is knock one of those two QBs out, and if the other isn't dressed, then we AUTOMATICALLY LOSE.

VT gave teams a roadmap to forcing the QB to keep the ball. All you have to do is have the DE crash on the B back, put your MLB on the pitch guy, and the QB always keeps on the read, which guarantees they get to hit the QB. So they do that every down, let us score however many points it takes to knock our QB out, then win once our offense dies from lack of having someone to run it.

That's my concern. Not necessarily that Clemson will succeed, but that EVERY TEAM IN THE ACC is going to do that for the rest of the year, and we'll eventually run out of QBs.

oh, we will forfeit if one of the QBs gets knocked out? why this nonsense??? you guys go from "team is unstoppable" to chicken little faster than marcus runs the 40.

it would be typical that we play at the level of the competition until our depth is where it needs to be. if we had been playing a good team on saturday, we probably would have won 10-7. i think that is part of the deal with young kids. it is hard to make them realize that they need to play above the level of the other team if you have it.

we also had some turnovers that hurt

i think we still play on, even if one of Nesbitt or Shaw gets knocked out of the game against Clemson. i doubt we forfeit. and i doubt that it would be an "AUTOMATIC" loss.

that it ridiculous, in fact, considering their woes

If we lose Nesbitt, and Jaybo's not dressed, then WE LOSE.

Calvin Booker = LOSE.

Were you at the game this past weekend? If so, it shouldn't be too hard to grasp. Hiking the ball to Calvin Booker in this offense, vs a real team, is an auto-sack.

Don't mean to bash the guy, I love that he's put his full effort into this team, and I hope he gets lots of playing time blocking on the PAT squad like he has up til now, but he absolutely CANNOT run this offense. He's slower than any of our LINEMEN.

The only way we can win if our #1 and #2 QBs are both out, vs anyone left on our schedule, is if we already have a large enough lead to where we can still win without gaining ANOTHER YARD for the rest of the game.

We were LUCKY to beat GW. We got LUCKY vs them. It was only our LUCK that gave us a win. Let that sink in for a second. Half our offensive yards for the entire game was on a lucky middle screen pass that almost went for a sack.

Without that lucky pass, we lose to a team that has a losing record in division two. Calvin Booker is that bad at running this offense. I'd rather see Andrew Gardner start at QB.

Now, all that said, if we can keep our #1 or our #2 QB healthy for the rest of the season, we can run the table.

But every team is going to try to injure our QB. That's their game plan. It's obvious.

Yes, and our QBs have to be smart about getting hit. As opposed to last year, Josh is diving a lot more on the longer runs. Also, the play where Jaybo got the concussion (1st play of the 4th quarter) he was running straight up and not low enough. Plus, he needs to get stronger, especially in his legs.

God I hope so.

I hope someone asks PJ that at the press conference.

The GW game was a reality check. CPJ is HUMAN! The TO offense has some vulnerabilities. I don't think we will run the table because that almost never happens these days in college football. Almost every week an "unbeatable" team goes down to a lesser opponent. That said, we survived a bad performance by the offensive line, a noble effort by a QB who is unfortunately a bad fit for the offense, costly penalties, some bad luck, and still managed to win. Many teams this year have not been so fortunate. I think we will play well against Clemson after Nesbit shakes off the cobwebs. Their problems are magnitutes greater than ours. Certainly no guaranteed win, but the sky is not falling. I'm more concerned about Virginia right now.

We need to exercise some understanding and not simply accept the GW game as our defining game. That means we have to accept the several mitigating factors for last Saturday, and remind ourselves that we have pummeled two D1A defenses (MSU and Duke) and stood toe to toe with two others (BC and VT). All is not lost.

Or maybe Dwyer. It couldn't work out any worse than what we saw Saturday.

I agree with your statement about the upcoming teams having a roadmap to defensing the TO. We knocked our heads bloody against the stone wall for large parts of the Duke game and THE WHOLE G-W game. Most of the time the plays were blown up before they could even get started, Booker or no Booker.

A sneaky, sudden-breaking passing game would be a tremendous help there but Saturday, there was no time for even that.

Let's hope that CPJ really is the genius most of us think he is and that he has an answer. There are problems coming if we don't get it figured out.

IF we have to go with Booker again, Coach, just put him in the shotgun and let him run a west cost offense type series with Dwyer as his safety valve in the flats. Seriously, Booker struggled so much getting back quickly enough that his passes were rushed.

Another thing about Saturday, where were the short passes over the middle. Everything was deep down the side, shades of Reggie.

Having had a few days to mill it over, I still think CPJ has something up his sleeve.

I think he was planning to break it out Saturday against Clemson but may try to hold out a little longer.

Its not conspiracy theory stuff - I just think CPJ thinks further ahead than one or two games. For all I know he's got the entire season mapped out in his head. I may be giving him a little too much credit.

Then again... ;)
