I think it's much too late to be playing a non-conference game. I'd really, really prefer this to be the 1st, 2nd or 3rd gm of the season. We wouldn't know how the younger guys play & could get them sone experience & get a feel for the returning team. With this game so late it may be a real disruption to our conference flow & substitution flow. Oh well, I don't like it, but we're stuck with it.
Note all the ACC teams UConn is playing in the next 2 yrs. @ WF & @ N C St in '03 while hosting Duke & @ GT in '04. UConn's '03 & '04 schedules

Playing Uconn sucks.
Playing Uconn later in the season sucks even more.
Neither of these sucks as much as playing @Uconn this year.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Well somebody has to play out of conference (or get a bye week) in the ACC each week. We have 9 teams in the league which means that someone has to play OOC each week. We have been lucky in the past as the ACC schedule makers have been kind to us (limiting our OOC games to the first part of the schedule... then ending with UGA).

Beeware, we totally agree. Someone is lettin' Uconn use us as a summer vacation from their cold, early winters. Since they won't be playing after the regular season ends, this is their "Florida" bowl game at GT's kosten.

Doesn't matter. We still got to beat them.

I think some people around here would compain about winning the lottery. "Aw, you gotta pay $15 million in taxes to get $18 million?. This sucks."

Playing them late is a nice mini break from a usual brutal late season schedule that includes UVa, FSU, and UGa.

This yr's sched was perfect. Vandy & UConn led off. That's the way it should be in '04 also. We shouldn't be dropping back to play an ooc, & possibly weak one at that, on 11/13. We've had absolutely no problem with the ACC by playing our non-cons early & using the Ga game as our 'off' week from conference play (& even having a bye week before Ga as an 'off' week also).
I believe the schedule wasn't properly looked at by the GT brass when setting up this 3 game series with UConn. Did Braine know when the UConn games could be arranged BEFORE he got to signing the contracts & if so, did he really want to play this game 11/13? Perhaps someone was caught napping by not figuring out that we couldn't play UConn early. Really, this whole flap with getting UConn as a replacement game for this yr, @ Storrs, & the late in the season game in '04 has been slightly mishandled. Sure would like to know when we play them in '05 as well.
The bigger, TV game, that was planned by ESPN for this yr, should've been worked out. We missed a golden opportunity for a BIG h&h series with somebody that would've put an additional national TV game on the schedule for this yr. Sure would like to know what went on there.
