Sorry Patrick. You deserved better, but at least you have a solid chance of making an NFL roster.

I agree, of the Jackets as free agents - he has best shot in my opinion (which means nothing)

Odds, he makes the roster? I know I wouldn't bet against him.

Well the numbers are definitely in the favor of the UDFAs (don't teams take anywhere from 5-20ish of them a year?). Still, pretty cool that there's more unheralded rookies making a career for themselves than the top prospects.

Sure, people always say that there are more UDFAs signed than 1st and 2nd rounders. But, what this reflects more than anything is that the things that teams utilize to grade talent just isn't a good indicator of future success in the league.

What would be more revealing, I suspect, is if there is a tally of how many 3rd and 4th rounders are in the league versus UDFAs.

How many of those UDFA are special teams (kicker, punter, long snapper)?

I get that there are more UDFAs being tried out every year, but teams heavily scout and hand pick their first and second round picks. Then there are another 200 or so picks that are made before getting to UDFAs. An impressive stat for the underdogs!

Then to be debbie downer...I'm sure money plays a role in this. Teams can fill out a roster paying league minimum to UDFAs that show they can contribute and will work their butt off every day. Still, there is hope for Gamble, JT and others...plus league minimum is a solid salary that I wish I had.

As much a financial reason for so many UDFAs as a skill one
Its about value for talent, not just talent
