Who else caught Ward during the player intros when he skipped over uga....and his high school to reveal that he is from Forest Park, Ga.

I hate uga, and I am even pissed. Why do some that have so much to be thankful for go out of their way to bitch slap things, places, or people that have helped them.

I can even come close to understanding why some who did not graduate college to give their high school, but this guy recognizes a flat place in the road.

Not that uga needs any recruiting boost, but /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wtf.gif

Not his fault. They mix those intros up every week. In other games he said UGA. It's really stupid that they do that though, because in some cases you might even think the player didn't go to college.

The same thing happened with a GT player (Nat Dorsey, if I recall correctly) earlier in the year. I think he said his high school rather than GT.

What the hell do you care??? He's showing "some love" to his hometown...why do you have to say what school you attended??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Now that is an idiot response. People on here pretend that recruiting and public relations is a big deal.
My statement was in a context of if we happen to ever again have a player in a national spotlight like the super bowl, I hope Ga. Tech gets mentioned and not just a hometown that does absolutely nothing for Tech.

It sounds like you may be a very proud native of Forest Park, Ga. Have a big time with hearing it on the tee-vee tonight.

I believe you meant "idiotic" response...and NO, I'm a proud native of Atlanta and Roswell, GA. The "idiot" is the original poster, who has nothing else to do but whine about trivial matters just b/c Ward attended UGA. Why don't you whine about the disarray that is surrounding our football program currently, but instead of whining to the rest of the choir, write letters to the Hill and the AD.

Oh, and BTW...I'm a Tech Alum also so don't try the "you must be a proud BullDawg(aka Leghumper, Ballsniffer, etc...).

Just found this lil' tidbit...

It looks like I'm not alone in knowing who the real "idiot" is...get a life!!!

Some of my fellow UGA fans have said that it was a "punch in face" and this is what I think:

Not saying "UGA" was not a punch in the face. Have you watched the Monday night games when Hines has said "UGA"? He has represented his hometown and UGA very, very well on and off the field his entire career and he doesn’t owe me or any UGA fan a dadgum thing. We didn't put him there and neither did UGA. He could have played anywhere in college, but he chose UGA.

Hines did everything UGA asked him to do; quarterback, running back, and receiver. One thing I can't stand is obnoxious, overzealous fans and there is no place for any UGA fan to be "offended" by an excellent performance from one of UGA's finest.

Unbelievable; just ridiculous. In case anyone hasn't noticed, UGA doesn't need any recruiting help from Hines Ward either.

As for the player introductions, it has almost become a game of "one-upmanship" with players trying to out-do the last guy. Don't remember which Monday Night game it was this season, but one O-Lineman said what Pre-School he went to. Really, what does it matter?

Well, I for one went to the same HS in the city of mention and I sure as hell am not proud of that fact today. I would gladly have mentioned UGA as opposed to Forest Park, GA in my introduction any day of the week and that is very hard for me to say. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pat.gif

Whoa!, I had no idea this subject was such a sore spot!

Regardless of the piling on, in no way does my opinion change about this.
I suppose that uga doesn't need any recruiting help, but if that was a Ga. Tech player, it would have been a wasted opportunity for one of the things we need the most, Exposure.

If Keith Brooking or another Yellow Jacket had won the game MVP, and had given Ga. Tech a pre-game plug, it certainly wouldn't have hurt our future recruiting. Hell, it probably would help, and we need help!
Regarding another comment you made, you can be assured that everything football related I care about is getting Ga. Tech back on track.

I forget who the first player was that mentioned his hs instead of his college team, happened a few years back and it was actually refreshing to hear something besides the same old routine. But now it's a bit irritating because, like most original ideas, it's become the 'in' thing to mention something other than your college. Several players yesterday mentioned something other than their college team.

Yeah, kind of like the "Vote For Pedro" t-shirts. Funny at first, but when everyone starts doing it, it loses it's appeal.

He also arrived in Detroit wearing a Notre Dame jersey #6 in honor of his teammate Bettis. I think it's no big deal for the most part. They are all trying to be "cute" I suppose. Deshea Townsend played at Bama but he didn't give them any credit either.

Many of you are just amazing. Reading such stupid comments makes me what quit opening this website! Well, I guess, its just good entertainment. Fools always make me laugh~

Gone back to watching more baseball!

Great honor to be named MVP of the game

fixed by the refs. The NFL has now joined the WWF(E) and the NBA. Wasn't it obvious?

Re: Great honor to be named MVP of the game

I believe he was referring to the two controversial calls in the end zone--one which took away a Seattle score and one which gave Pitt a touchdown when there was really no sign that Roethlisberger ever actually got the ball over. The first call, the offensive pass int. on Seattle, I agreed with. I disagreed with the second call but with the way NFL officiating is now it didn't shock me that it wasn't overturned.

Re: Great honor to be named MVP of the game

The guys on ESPN radio were talking about:

The offensive pass interference called on Seattle that thwarted a scoring drive.

The same pushoff by Hines Ward not called on the pass completed to the 1 to setup their first TD.

The offensive holding penalty that called back a Seahawk touchdown.

A clipping call on Hasselback when he tackled the return man on an interception.????

On a long pass near the goal line they ruled the Seattle receiver was out of bounds when he had one foot in bounds and another clipped the pilon (not sure if that is a bad call or not)

Anybody remember any others?

Re: Great honor to be named MVP of the game

Not that anyone cares, but I was taught a long time ago that refs, umps, and officials can't determine winners or losers. Unless the refs blow every call on every play from scrimmage which I'm sure hasn't ever happened.

Teams usually run about 75 offensive plays from scrimmage in the course of a game, so even if the refs blow 4 or 5 calls that leaves the offense 70 other plays to put their team in a position score. You've got to make plays for your self. There is a probability of scoring on each snap and it's the job of the defense to minimize that chance. You've got to make more plays. Not being able to get first downs and putting a soccer player on the field to kick field goals will always come back to bite you. You've got to get first downs.

How do the great receivers get enough separation to make so many catches in a career? Route running and push off to create separation. They know how to push off discretely. They use their hands, or fingers, or thigh, or leg, or jump at an angle to use their body and momentum. Very subtle movements can help greatly. Seattle's Darrell Jackson didn't even push off. He just stuck his arm out and it was enough to turn the free safety's shoulder and not allow him to get squared up. Besides he had enough separation already and he didn't need to put his arm up to be open. It's always interesting to see what people say about a subject that have never directly had experience in. Receivers have their ways of getting open and sometimes it's legal and a lot of times it technically isn't legal.

ESPN Radio is the NPR of sports. Not a reliable source for the most part, but every-once-in-a-while the weather report will roll around and it's served it's only semi-reliable function.

Re: Great honor to be named MVP of the game

Got it!

Yes, the officiating was horrible. Seems an appropriate way to end this NFL season.

The controversy of Bradshaw and Montana and their going home because of no appearance money is also a beauty.
