Tech-UGA winner may go to Chick-fil-A Bowl
Stokan says former Peach Bowl wants victor of Nov. 25 game

Published on: 11/13/06 Next week's Georgia-Georgia Tech showdown could be a play-in game for the Chick-fil-A Bowl, bowl president Gary Stokan said Monday.
Of course, Tech has higher aspirations — it earned a spot this past weekend in in the Dec. 2 ACC championship game, which sends its winner to the Orange Bowl. But should Tech beat Georgia and then lose in the championship game, Chick-fil-A officials would almost certainly take Tech, Stokan said.

nice to see that we're wanted, but I'd love our boys to spend a few days in south florida.

Wait, what? A four loss (four bad losses at that) UGag team in the Bowl-Formerly-Known-As-Peach? I thought the Peach (ahem, Chic-Fil-A) was trying to sell themselves as bigger than that? One win over Auburn certainly changes things, huh?

The Peach bowl pisses me off.

ACC #2 vs SEC #5.

The Gator bowl is better and it involves the ACC #3.

Don't forget though that a 7-1 Tech team in the ACC means that no team 5-3 in conference (Clemson, BC if they lose to Miami or Maryland, or anyone else) can be selected in the bowl process over the Yellow Jackets. Should GT lose to UGA and the ACCCG, I would expect the Gator Bowl to be the most likely destination.

Of course, who should be worried about the Peach Bowl (I will always refer to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl as this) when you're looking to go 11-2 after Dec. 2.

At this point in the year, the only team's that could go to the Peach Bowl before us are Virginia Tech, BC, Wake and Maryland, assuming that Virginia Tech and BC wins both of its games. Also, one of BC, Wake and Maryland will go to the Orange Bowl if we lose the ACCCG, leaving only two of those teams available for the Peach Bowl.

So, it looks like we will go to the Peach Bowl if VPI loses another game, because the Peach would definitely pick us over Wake, Maryland or BC. Also, if VPI does win out, we will still go to at least the Gator for the same reasons.

I'm sure these bowls would probably choose Clemson or FSU if they could, but that's the situation they've been given this year.

Help me understand this, I thought the ACC #2 team now goes to the Peach (sorry Chick-fil-A) Bowl. If we lose in the ACC Championship Game don't we go to the Peach automatic?!!?? How could a #3 Acc team jump over us, simply b/c the Peach wants someone else??? I swear if we end up in the Music City or frean Tire Bowl in Charlotte or Boise I give up! Our only choices now should be Orange if we win in Jacksonville and the Peach Bowl, WTF!???

It's fine that the Peach (sorry Chick-fil-a doesn't fly with me) now takes the ACC #2 team, although I thought the Gator was a good place to slot #2. What I do not like is that the opponent is the SEC #5 team. The SEC representative needs to be upgraded to at least the #4 team.

It happened last year. By the records, we were supposed to go to the Music City Bowl (correct me if I'm wrong). But, we were jumped by UVA and one other team and sent to the Emerald Bowl.

I was pretty mad at the time...

Nope, Peach bowl gets the number 2 pick, not automatically the number 2 team. However, bowls cannot pick a team if another ACC team has two less conference losses. This means that the Peach or the Gator cannot pick a 5-3 Clemson team over a 7-1 GT team, no matter what.

If we do lose the ACCCG, it's very unlikely that we'll fall lower than the Gator this year and we will probably go to the Peach if VPI loses to Wake or UVA. The absolute worse case scenario (assuming that we beat Duke) is if VPI, and two out of Wake/BC/MD get picked first, sending us to the Music City Bowl (it's set in stone that we will not go out west).

But I highly doubt anybody out of Wake/BC/MD will generate more bowl revenue then us, even if we lose two straight to end the season.

Then, the one loss rule only applied to the Gator and Peach bowls. With this year's rules in place, UVA and NC State would not have been able to jump us in bowl selections.

All I have to say is if we end up being the #2 Acc team and as Coastal Div. Champs we end up anywhere but the Peach or Gator I give up. Why play the game, it doesn't matter. If the bowl doesn't like your school or you "don't travel well" then pack your bags, its off to the Bay Area for a half a## bowl! WTF!!!!

Welcome to the ACC!! The fact that the Peach is supposedly acc #2 vs sec #5 should say it all.

We either play in the Orange Bowl, or we play in the Nashville Bowl !
What more incentive does this team need to beat uga!!

Guys, I was looking forward to the Music City Bowl last year. Needless to say I was PO'd and didn't make the trip to whereever it was we "played" last year.

If we lose to UGA and the ACCCG then we will be doing good to go to the Music City, so don't pee in your bed, you might have to sleep in it.

I wouldn't want to make two consecutive trips to Jacksonville.

Screw the chicken sandwich bowl! I have a peculiarly strong craving for sweet Florida ORANGES!!!

Ah, thanks a lot for the clarification. I'm happy that they've done something to prevent that kind of thing from happening again.

The Chick-Fil-A gets #2 pick to avoid a team going to Jacksonville twice in a month. But, if we should lose in Jacksonville, I don't mind going again and playing on New Year's Day.

That said, it is a shame that the Chick-Fil-A prefers UGA to us. No matter what happens in Athens, we have had a better season. But, for some reason the Atl bowl seems to want to avoid us whenever it can but is always delighted to have the Dawgs. I hope Va Tech beats 'em 30-0 if they choose UGA over us.
