my favorite Uga story comes from the time that i worked in Athens for the 96 Olympics in the Soccer Competition office. as most of you know, on the locker room side of Sanford there is a pretty large statue of one of the Ugas. Well, in messing around on the field staging volunteers and so on, we noticed that this Bulldog is made anatomically correct, and i must say quite impressive for a dog that typically cant lift its stomach off the ground for very long in real life.
the joke became amongst us about how big the Bulldogs member was on the statue.
at some point, on a day when everyone was overworked and extremely tired and getting hammered by FIFA guys, Bill Barker, the then women's soccer coach at UGA came into the office and proudly declared, "i measured it. its 9 inches SNI."
most of us were totally somewhere else mentally at that point, and looked up confused at him.
he reiterated "The Bulldog, i measured him and its 9 inches SNI". we started to understand, but of course the question arose,"SNI, what is that"
Barker said, with the smile of a man who just saw you move into his check-mate trap, "SNI, sack not included"
we all laughed our, uh, sacks off and the tension was so broken.
barker is a good man, and we had a lot of fun with him!
as an aside, that was the summer that Bobo got into several fights at bars, i even saw him up there getting kicked out of one.
