Ugay starting 3rd stringer

Mark Richt right now:

Faton has been a uga fan favorite for awhile. They had given up on the 1st and 2nd string before the season started.

If he does this and they go up in flames tomorrow, the shrieking for his job in Athens will reach a fever pitch.

That's gonna happen regardless if he loses to Florida.

But I think this might be a smart move for Richt. 1st and 2nd string ain't getting it done. So he'll take a gamble. Why not?

"Starting" could mean he plays the first series and maybe a couple more throughout the game. The rumor has been floating around all week. I suspect it is mostly to force Florida to try and prepare for two different types of QB's. That said, if he starts hot, Richt will kinda be forced to leave him in. But I'm not buying that they plan to let him play the majority of the game. If they thought he was anything, he'd have been on the field, or at least 2nd string, before now.

Unless I just didn't see it in the article, I don't understand why Ramsey isn't starting if he's been taking snaps for them all season.

Because Richt really wants that Miami job.

If Richt's plan is self-sabotage, watch closely Saturday and you'll see that he'll have someone come up to him throughout the game and whisper "our national title hopes are on the line here" before every big decision.

IF ugay loses to Florida, could a loss to GT put the final nail in Richts coffin?

Greyson Lambert's QBR is almost 150 and he's only thrown 2 picks this season. They put their 2nd stringer in against Alabama and he threw 2 picks in 6 passes. With that rate, I expect Batua to throw 2 picks on his first passing attempt somehow.

It's either about matchups or making Florida waste practice time. Florida's defense has been very good, and perhaps Richt is worried a pocket QB will get hammered mercilessly.
