If that's how you want to get your players, good luck. See how it pans out, but you did that last year and these guys don't give a öööö
100% agree, however, NIL was approved by the US Supreme Court. I'm not sure the NCAA had the will left to contend with future lawsuits. Once the distinguishing of student-athletes from contract/employment was abolished, it was inevitable. IMPO, the whole college athletics model needs to be blown up and reimagined. That will never happen, so we're stuck with a terribly broken system. Can the NCAA ever get anything right? Collectives should not have been allowed in the NIL era. Schools should not be able to negotiate deals. The whole point was to allow athletes to share in the profits that can be made from name, image and likeness. Athletes should benefit equally from video games, jersey sales, etc. but, NIL deals should be between the individual athlete and a willing party. Coaches did not like this, because it was out of their control.
Now, with collectives, the schools can buy athletes. This is not the same as athletes profiting off their own notoriety and marketing ability. Expect Title IX lawsuits and suits from minor sports. Abolish the NCAA and start over.

$5M won’t go as far as some might think.
The real misstep was fighting to preserve the illusion of amateurism for as long as possible instead of seeing the writing on the wall and working on a structured resolution. That put them behind the eight ball and allowed for the free-for-all that we have now.
I'm still waiting on the decision that levies taxes on all that NIL these students are making. You can bet there is a group/groups behind all this that will line their pockets, from the IRS to marketing execs, to wherever.

Shouldn’t there be a salary cap on this öööö like the NFL has?
It may be. I'm pretty sure that the "scholarship" and the COA they have been receiving are not, but now should be since they are no longer amateurs. Why wouldn’t it be taxable now? It’s income just like any other celebrity endorsement.
If you’re saying that players aren’t reporting today then there are a lot of dimes to drop to the IRS in Athens.
Then we're screwed and it really won't matter who the next coach is.Salary cap is only legal if you have a collective bargaining agreement with a players union.
