Unofficial visits must not be going well.

GT has had several dozen recruits at our home games, as all teams do & not all of them are Srs, for 'unofficial' visits. Some schools have had hundreds already. Not all unofficials are for football games, but other weekends as well. Not to mention the GT football camps & Nike camps where the coaches can meet, evauate & recruit the players. The coaches can talk & offer on 'unofficials' almost like they do on 'officials'. GT has no new committments since July.
Some folks who watch GT recruiting would have you believe that Tech is waiting on the official visit to offer the youngster a 'ship. Fact is, GT has many offers out there now where the HC or position coach has not met the guy 'in person'. Another fact is we have met many of these players, but have not offered. Seems to me that we may be waiting on too many longshots & not taking the bird in the bush. I dunno.
NCar, NC St, Vir, Ga, Aub, Ala seem to be picking up 2-3 committs a month while we are stuck on 3. We are not trying to get more than a couple that FSU, Miami, Fla want so we WON'T be waiting til the last minute like they have to. Past few yrs Tech has picked up committs along & along during the season, as the other schools do. Seems as if we have hit a brick wall this yr.
Perhaps this is all meaningless, but recruiting just feels so much different this yr. What do ya'll think? Make me feel better.

I think this is a concern. But it is SO HARD TO TELL WITH THIS STAFF.

It appears they keep a lid on everything. I know we have a TON of ships to give way and would love to be sitting on 20 commits by december.

But I dont want to distract these coaches. MD and UVA need there full attention b/c if we lose those two I think the program will be in shambles.

You're sure right about the Md & Vir games. We'll probably have a LOT of local recruits for the Vir game. We could actually give a good bit more than 25 'ships if we could get some to come in early & count toward our losses this season (Holiday,Poree,Kuale, etc.).
It's not the coaches that make the committs public(they can't), it's the recruits themselves who must do this. The recruits are constantly being worked on by gurus, mags & even their own coaches to go public & end the speculation. Often the HS coach makes the announcement for them or parents. Usually by now we know more.

Yes, the lack of stated recruits , and the lack of information regarding recruits is always a huge concern for the fans, including me.

However, we don't know all of the facts concerning the coaches feelings regarding recruiting information, so we have no choice. We will have to just wait and chew our nails.

I don't feel good about our recruiting but still, I just can't get a grip on Gailey and his methods. He is a strange duck, to be sure-but I will try to give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise. As if I had a choice, maybe we will all be pleasantly surprised
when signing day gets here.

I'm not worried about recruiting. Gailey has already said that he considers it to be the top priority in college football. That's why many of his assistants were the recruiting coordinators at their former schools. I'm guessing that the lack of public knowledge is either:

1. A leftover from his NFL days. Didn't have to worry about it then, and in the draft you had to keep quiet about who you wanted.

2. A way to keep the pressure off Tech for recruits who are "under the radar". When a recruit starts getting recruited by a big school, their ranking jumps up and instantly more teams want him. By keeping it quiet, maybe we're keeping some big-time talent to ourselves.

Do you think CG is taking GT's academic entry standards seriously enough to be waiting for grades and college board scores to be finalized before offers are given?

Thank god some of you guys don't know what's going on. This has been one of the worst years i can think of to be a GT fan with a bunch of negative people that post on this board.NOT ALL BUT SOME!!!!!

Oddly, a back-up plan for a poor season and poor recruiting response would be to hold back some schollys. If Gathers and Hollings come back 75%+, we might have a good season next yr and improve our exposure and success rate with top guys in recruiting.

Personally, I think it would be a great idea if NO news about recruiting at all could be published until signing day!! It is cruel the external pressures that are put on some of these 17/18 yr. olds. These publications and internet sites on recruiting just promulgate the hype. Many adults make big $$ off these kids from wk. to wk.

So much publicity about the leanings of a kid only increase the possibility and probability that he will be pressured by "homies", businessmen in hometown, etc. I just think it has gotten out of hand.

The problem that I have with Gailey as it pertains
to recruiting is that he trys to keep the Tech fans in the dark about what is going on. This is in contrast to what we are accustomed to. I know that a coach cannot tell us that he is recruiting
JOE JONES but he can tell us that he is recruiting a tackle from Americus and so on. This is done by many college coaches and this just gets the fans excited about their program. Conversely, it seems that Chan wants blind trust and this won't be forthcoming from any intelligent person. There must be a basis for trust. Chan doesn't give us much to be excited about.

The same folks on this board who keep trashing Gailey as a coach and recruitor before the season and recruiting period is even over are the same ones who want him to be more honest and build a basis for trust and tell everyone everything. Laughable. I respect everyone's thoughts, but I'll save judgement until the job is done.

Beat the twerps!
