Updated Wagner Blog (7:41pm)

It appears Duke University is still very much in the mix to land the services of Naval Academy head coach Paul Johnson, The Capital has learned.
An extremely reliable source in the Raleigh-Durham area called this afternoon to report that Duke athletic officials have been told the school could remain a major player in the Johnson sweepstakes provided athletic director Joe Alleva stepped up to the plate in terms of certain financial considerations.

Looks like Dook is back in the game.

Read down a little further. That was posted this morning. It was updated again in the last 20 minutes.

No way. I just don't see it. I'll be shocked if he ends up at Duke. That'd be like Richt turning down UGA because Vandy offered 200k more.

Duke is a very interesting competitor if they can come up with the money. Consider this, if Paul Johnson's team goes 5-7 three years from now GT would fire him; but Duke would likely give him a 5 year contract extension.

Who here thinks that we are looking like a ugly girl waiting for the Football QB to ask us to the prom? I mean come on, this guy is just leading us along. If he wanted to come to GT he would have told us by now. Plus how embrassing would it be if we lost to Duke or SMU? Can't you guys see this? We need to tell him, if you are not coming to GT, then we are going to proceed in a different direction. Please open your eyes and see this.

Terrible analogy.

Vandy > Duke
GT < UGA(g)
Johnson < Richt (currently)

It's more like Houston Nutt leaving Arkansas to coach Mississippi. Oh wait.

We did that with Edsall. How'd that turn out? And it's only embarassing when you finally wake up and realize that our financial problems really were serious enough that we should have stuck out putting up with Chan for a few more years until we straightened out the budget. Then, you can feel like a dumbass. Unfortunately, you sunk that boat. Nut it up. You want Johnson, kick in some more cash. Otherwise, sit tight and see if anyone else does.

Then, go beg Charlie Strong to be your next head coach before we get stuck with Tenuta or some kid from south Georgia.

I hope DRad gives PJ this message ... answer needed by [time certain on Friday] or the offer is void. Enough is enough.

We've already discussed this angle. Until further advised, we're still the hot chick in the group. LINK

I'm not worried about Duke at all (I have no basis for this other than arrogance :)) SMU has a chance IMO.

That "kid" from south Georgia fits exactly the mold that both DRad and Clough talked about when this search began. Yeah, he doesnt have much D1 experience...but look how much d1 experience paid off for 'bama this past season...

Predicting success of coaches is far from an exact science...but I think the Hatch is going to be a great coach somewhere, and I sure hope it's at GT.

I don't disagree, but as of yesterday I decided to take the contrarian P.O.V. when discussing CH. If there's that much support for him on an interweb message board, but not in GTAA, there's obviously something wrong with him.

Probably beats his wife and kids. :dead_horse:
