"Experts" believe that there will be between 12 and 20 fewer plays per game because of the clock starting when the ball is kicked instead of received as well as the clock starting when the ball is put in play after a change of possession instead of when it is snapped.
This could lower overall stats per game in terms of offensive yardage, tackles, INT's, etc.
These "experts" in the article (no link available I can find) that are not thriilled with the decision include Fulmer, Spurrier, Paterno, and Bellotti.

Theoretically,

Won't this help teams with depth issues? Perhaps evening the playing field even more?

Absolutely.

And it's not just a depth issue. The shorter the game, the less likely for the better team to win. It is just simple odds.

This is probably good for us short term. Looks like the coaches of loaded teams understand this very well.

This is such crap. The stats have been padded forever when they decided to go to 13 and in some cases 14 game seasons as well as including the kids bowl game stats as part of their regular season stats which never used to happen.

Bingo - see David Greene's most wins ever for a college QB record. Only 1 SEC Championship and 0 MNCs to show for all of those wins.

Also, stats are enhanced by the OTs that can go on forever. Definitely an advantage over the days when games would end in a tie at the end of regulation.

The game changes and evolves from time to time. Hard to compare stats to stats when they're across different eras. The great players have to be looked at for the way that they affected the game in their time, some of course stand out across time, like LT for the way he changed the offensive schemes, [FONT=verdana, arial, sans serif][SIZE=-1][FONT=verdana, arial, sans serif][SIZE=-1]Holieway who was probably the greatest option QB to ever play the game, etc.

Will stats change? Almost certainly, but oh well, one of the great things about football is watching the way its played change over the years and looking back on the guys who did it (even if it was long before you were born in my case... thank you espn classic and comcast !:D)
