Use Suggs in 4th quarter?

Reasons I wouldn't have done it are because Suggs would have come into the game cold and the sputtering offense wasn't entirely Reggie's fault. I think he should not have run the ball as much as he did, but the FSU LBs and ends were also much more successful at getting around our offensive line in the second half.

That said, Suggs did look pretty good last year in a hurry-up spread offense because it kept him in a good rhythm. However, he simply didn't produce for us last year in pressure situations. No telling if he would this year, but after finding out in the past couple of games what this team is made of and capable of doing, we are not in an experimental mode.

I don't remember anything from Suggs to lead me to believe he can handle that last drive. He certainly didn't against Clemson or FSU last year. If he gets in a game I'll be behind him 100%, but I haven't seen anything from him to make me think he would produce in that situation.

WHY?? How many games could we have won in the 4th quarter last year? Let's see, last year we had the ball in good field position towards the end of game against CLEM, WF, & FSU, how many of those games were we successful in sticking the ball in the endzone?

SouthGA, we only needed an FG, not a TD. Definitely woudnt rely on suggs for a TD.

To be honest Shady, with the possible exception of the first half against UVA last year I think making quick reads and accurate throws are two of Suggs' weaknesses. We didn't get it done yesterday so it's easy to second guess, but I'd say it makes as much sense to ask for Suggs as to ask Camp to come in on that drive. Besides the results of the game what would it have done to Ball's self confidence and what would the rest of the offense/team now think? If Ball and JSmith had been more together on that last play we would have been in FG position anyway.

Also NCJACKET, with the pressure FSU was applying to the QB, what would they had done to an immobile QB?

While I wish Suggs' career would have been as promising as his practice results, history shows us that he wasn't up to the challenge last year.

Too many games (Clemson, Wake, FSU) come to mind where AJ threw and interception a the worst possible time, nullifying game-winning drives.

No, sticking w/ Reggie was the correct call, given Reggie's speed and arm strength. I'm surprised we didn't adjust to FSU's outside speed, though.

No. An emphatic no. Please study football a little while longer. Not a dig but it's obvious we need to keep A.J. off the field as much as possible even though we love him very much. I'm as good a qb as A.J. is and I suck. Questions?

Gosh, Shady, did you sleep through the year 2002?
Several of us said that Mr Suggs (your son of Chan) would never play another down for Gailey after that first half of the "Bowl".

I wish we would have called another screen, either to PJ or Smith on 2nd or 3rd down or something else short and tried to run for the first, also maybe see Bilbo on 1st and goal from the 2 next time seeing how he will be more efficient on the sneak. Great game by the guys though the Fake Punt has worked twice now, way to go Chan this team never gave up and plays with more fire and passion than any of O'Leary's teams ever did.

I dont understand. Last year if we criticize suggs and the decision to play him despite horrific performances, everyone gets mad and says to let him play and hes doing well and its not his fault, etc.

now look at yall.

No. That is all.

Hnoestly, maybe Suggs could've driven the ball down the field. But with no protection, it is better to have Ball because he's mobile. Ball needs that kind of experience too though in a hostile environment. Gotta leave Reggie in there.

shady, the point is that Suggs was the best bet we had last year. He's not anymore. It's really that simple. Bilbo couldn't beat him out, Ball did.

First of all let me get this out of the way.

Yes, I am not a true GT Fan.
Yes, I want GT to lose.
Yes, I know nothing about football.
Yes, I am not a real football person.
Yes, I have never watched a football game before.
Yes, I need to read football for dummies.
Yes, I am an idiot.

If i missed one, Im sure you will let me know.
Now with that all out of the way,

do you think we should have used Suggs towards the end of the 4th quarter, or maybe on the final drive? It is a lot to expect a true freshman to drive us down the field against FSU with little time remaining. Suggs has some experience and is good at throwing short passes to move the ball towards field goal range. The worst outcome would be that he would throw a pick, which happened anyway.

rather than telling me you disagree, i know some of you will attack me due to the fact that my post mentions (just for the purpose of discussion) doing something other than what the coach did.

But then again, since the post refers to playing Suggs, son of chan, maybe you wont attack me after all.

anyway before you attack, read the first part of the post and make sure i havent covered it already.

We should have used Suggs if we wanted Stanford Samuels to run an INT in for 6 on 1st down.
