UVA game is big for 2 reasons

Each week, each game has it's own significance. Each week we can rejoice in another win and what it means.

THIS week, a win over UVA means we are bowl eligible. This is HUGE in and of itself. First of all, who thought we'd be bowl eligible much less this early in the season? Secondly, we'll have some VERY valuable practice time coming in December both to learn the offense AND for future GT stars to learn the ropes!

The 2nd reason this week's game is big is that IF we win (against a solid UVA team) we STAY ranked. That may not seem like a big deal to you, but name me ONE time when we've been able to stay ranked (outside of the 2006 season) since 2000. Seems like we fall out of the rankings quicker than we got in. Keep moving forward Jackets!

I agree with both of your reasons. I'm sure there are others.

What concerns me is people saying we should win out or we have easy games left in conference, at home. There is not a game left that we couldn't lose. Our team should take it 1 game as a time and I'm sure CPJ will see to that. We are not a great team on offense. We should get better over the last 5 games but we are not executing very well most of the time. Just don't get ahead of ourselves. Most fans would have been happy to win 7 games to get bowl eligable this year. We have 1 win to go to do that.

I, for one, thought we would be bowl eligible, and I also don't give a rats azz about rankings. But I completely agree that we need to learn how to play under the pressure of being ranked, something we had trouble with in the past, and we need to "Just Win Baby"

Agreed! I think that this game is the most important game of the season because it is the next game. Yes, we CAN lose any of the remaining games, but what is different about our team this year and our teams of the recent past is that WE control our destiny. I remember some years in the past where no matter what we did, we knew that if the other team came out full throttle we were toast. Not anymore. If we play our game we win, no matter what the other guy does. Great post. Go Jackets!!
