GT is listed as a 17 point favorite.

I would have predicted 6, but 17?

Anyone else surprised by this?

I predict we don't beat this spread either.

I do think we'll do well though.

Although, I was wrong about covering the spread against Troy, I think we will cover it against UVA. Our players will not take UVA lightly(Some of them have never beaten UVA!)and we will be in control all game. The game will be over by the 4th quarter with the score being 34-7, the back-ups will allow a TD in the 4th with the final score being 34-14. The 3 year drought will end Thursday night in impressive fashion to give us momentum for our trip to Blacksburg.

I live in Charlottesville and I can tell you first hand UVA sucks! Troy is a beter team then UVA. They have no speed on defense.Look for one of the Johnson's to light them up Thursday.

i'm with bsakoff. I think Troy is better than UVA this year. If our offense comes in like it ended against Troy, we'll have no problem covering.

to be more accurate, you should have said "if UVA's defense comes in like Troy's defense ended, all worn out, we'll have no problem covering." :laugher:

The big difference will be in the VA offensive philosophy--run to set up the pass .They have a big offensive line and will start a mobile QB --who could give us fits if they go to a short passing game to the RBs and TEs.This is the type of offense that we have the most trouble against.Let's hope our DL is ready to help stuff the run and force the Hooo'rs to try a few longer passes.

I disagree. I think we have much bigger problems with teams that have a good intermediate passing game and who protect well.

History agrees with WILMOO. UVa is one of the few teams that have manhandled our defense. They've done it by coming straight at us with the ground game and the using play-action off of that.

Why does everyone get so worked up over Vegas lines? They're put out there for the gambling public, not the fans. They're trying to get 50% of the money on each side guaranteeing that the book will make $$$.

What UVA has done (or not done) so far this season is fresh on the minds of gamblers (not stuff that happened 5 years ago or even last year) - this line has very little to do with what GT has done.

Maybe my memory is hosed up, then. All I remember is Hagans avoiding pressure from the shotgun and completing passes for 1 yard longer than UVA needed for the down conversion. And then I have another memory of that. And then another.

Maybe that's just what sticks out.

UVA lost badly to Pitt, and lost to Western Michigan by 7. If we cannot beat them by 10 I'd be depressed. 17 is about accurate of a point spread as it will draw an even number of bettors to both sides which is its intent. That said, Gailey is famous for not having a killer instinct and putting away teams, hence covering the point spread. Doubt it happens.

You are 100% right, and the QB they are starting is not even in the same ballpark as Hagans, and they do not have a TE like Heath Miller to dump the ball short too.

I'm still lacking confidence in our offense. I didn't think we would cover against Troy and I don't think we will against Virginny either. We win and almost cover, let's say 26 - 10.

And those aren't even the reasons why they suck. Their offensive line is apparently a huge liability this year where it was a major advantage over us and our blitz in the last few seasons. We now have opportunities to get to the QB (who shouldn't be as mobile as Hagans) that we haven't had the last couple of years.

I think we'll cover. Handily.

The party is over for UVa and its just starting for us.
