Very Proud of Taylor Bennett

Taylor went into a very tough situation and performed admirably. He threw a couple up for grabs, including the INT, but he also didn't throw any 10 feet too high. His performance in the pocket was excellent. He turned the wrong way and got sacked the first time he faced pressure, but after that he did an excellent job of avoiding pressure and keeping plays alive.

Certain dogmatists here have claimed Taylor's performance mostly owes to West Virginia's lousy pass defense, but if you look at the season only Brian Brohm put up better numbers against them (and only a little better at that) and 35 points in 4 quarters against them is better than any other offense did (Louisville scored 44, but that included a punt return TD and a fumble return TD, Rutgers had 23 points at the start of overtime), 486 yards total offense is also the highest total of any team this season against WVU.

I am very pleased to know we will have a RS Junior this capable as our leading QB candidate for next year.

Agree & would add that Bennett's play helped Tashard run for, what, 160 yards against a reputedly strong run D.

yes, there is room for improve for TB, but considering the situation, I don't think you could have asked for anything more from him. I was VERY impressed with him. Will only get better after a offseason of work and an offense molded around a pocket QB .If we can somehow talk CJ into coming back...would almost be unfair.

Got to admit I was very pleasantly surprised.he almost could not have had a better performance overall considering the circumstances.

Outstanding performance by TB. I hope to see many more such performances next year.

Same here! Even though UWV adjusted to our offense in the second half, I thought Bennett did an outstanding job overall. 13 might even become my lucky number next year.

Negative! There is no chance he's going to start. I'm calling it now! Chan has already promised the starting job to his new freshman; regardless of how good they are. Sound familiar?

It's a shame too. We looked so good with TB in the game.

So he promised the starting job to 2 new freshmen QBs? That should be interesting H-town. I guarantee you he hasn't promised anything to anybody except a chance to compete.

Congratulations! You have won the Retarded Thread Hijack of the Day Award!

My wife has already heard the following, and as usual just kind of rolls her eyes anymore when I talk about my views on the mystery of the qb selection this year.
I just need to offer this to all of my jolly good fellows. No disrespect is meant toward the program:

Why would Chan Gailey not publicly praise Taylor Bennett for his play against #12 WVU? Is Chan as rude to TB in private as he is to him when dealing with the media? I am convinced he is not.

Taylor Bennett does not appear to be a stupid person, and I am pretty sure that his family at home has Taylor's best interests at heart.
My point on this is that I believe the exclusive play of RB this year was mandated by someone other than CG, and that Taylor and his family (I want to say father, but won't) have been consulted with on the situation.

I just do not believe CG would not gush over the poise TB showed at the position in a huge real first test, unless something entirely foreign to football was going on.
If not, I would be screaming mad if I were Taylor's father.

What do you call this?

"I thought that Taylor played extremely well for the situation. I thought he played extremely well. The first half was phenomenal. He moved around and made some things happen. In the second half, he played good. Not as good as he did in the first half, and you look at that. But you take the whole game into perspective, and he did an outstanding job. He learned something today. He learned that, when you're in the fourth quarter and within three points, you don't take the chance down there. We talked about it when he came off the sideline. But he has a bright future." - Chan Gailey

Sorry pw, but that's insane. Gailey obviously thought Reggie gave us the best chance to win at the beginning of the year. Early on it actually was working and Reggie was playing his best in 4 years. However once he was injured he couldn't run as much and our offense began to struggle. Unfortunately for us, Chan has that pro mentality that you don't lose your job due to injury and you don't play your backup QB unless you have to.

So Reggie played worse, but we still won. Even with his performances against ugag and Wake, we were one play from winning both, and in Chan's judgement that means he's still the starter and is liable to make the big play to pull it out.

I'm not saying I agree with him at all, but I think that's the pro mindset that he approaches QB decisions with. And even if I'm wrong it makes a hell of a lot more sense than thinking that some unknown person is pulling the strings. Just who would that be?

Probably Dave Braine. He did say GT should not carry the expectation of winning over 8-9 games. Not pulling RB in favor of TB against UGA and WF certainly assured that.

For the first part, if you are right I hope Dan picks up the pace on Chan's "college" education.
Regarding your direct question, I happen to believe that the mess left over after our "problems" grew many fingers, which are finally now a thing of the past.

Chan Gailey knows more about football than 99.99% of all that post on this board or any other. He wants to win 'em all as much as anyone. This is why what he has done at the qb position baffles me.

Tech definitely would have beaten the dawgs and been ACC Champs with #13 at the helm. All the games we won since the Clemson debacle were won in spite of Reggie Ball(i.e.- T. Choice rushing and steller defense). I can't believe Chan could not see this either. It was as if he was too proud to admit he picked the wrong QB after all these years.

After watching the second half of the Duke game, I was convinced Taylor Bennett was the superior QB. The pocket_watch theory seems to make the most sense to me.

Note: History shows we must beat Clempson if we want a victory over the dumb dawgs. Tech has not beaten UGAg since 1977 without beating Clempson first.

No, we wouldn't definitely have won with Tb against ugag and Wake. I think we would have had a better chance to score more points, but that doesn't mean we would have won...see the Gator Bowl. That doesn't mean I think it was right to play Reggie all the way through either game, but putting him in would have guaranteed nothing.

This is the wisest thing I've see posted in a long, long time.

Actually, I believe we would have lost to the dogs (damnit) because of the dog's excellent D and beat Wake with TB under center. But speculation aside, there is NO assurance whatsoever that we would have won either game with TB.

twice this week Hell has frozen over. I'm in agreement Geeteelee. :eek5:

UGA played VT's #1 defense in the country tough by scoring 31.
