Wow, how sad is that?

I like GT's requirement of athletes having to graduate in order to have their jersey retired.

Kevin Durant spent one year at Texas and they didn't even make it to the sweet 16 or win the Big 12.

You can make a case for Vince Young, but he left early to go pro.

This is an embarrassment for Texas IMO.

I don't think that graduating should be a requirement. Vince Young did graduate from Texas, in a way...he got his football education, obtained the highest level of success for him and his university, and then got the exact job he went to school for. Nothing wrong with that, and he certainly meant a lot to the university. When it comes to student athletes good enough to go pro, getting an academic degree is overrated, and, in many cases, the wrong thing to do.

The Kevin Durant thing is just a joke though. I really don't get where they are coming from with that.

When he gets his degree he will have a chance, but it's not a slam dunk.

Why in the world would we retire Calvin's number? I mean, I love the guy just as much as the next person, but in his time here we never beat Georgia, never won the ACC, never won a bowl game, never won anything really. He did get a lot of good press last year, but he never really put GT on the map nationally...we are still the butt of jokes in Georgia and "Georgia Tech University" in many other places. When a player comes along who can change that, that is someone who deserves to have his number retired.

The only football player in GT history to have his number retired didn't graduate either, but I don't think anyone would argue against his case.

Only one football player will ever have his number retired. God willing none of our other players will make the same sacrifice.

Yeah, like I said, you can make a case for Vince Young. He played for 3 years, put up ridiculous numbers, went 30-2 as a starter and won a national championship.

CJ will have a chance to have his # retired? No he won't. There is only one number retired and it symbolizes something more than just one person's accomplishments on the field.

CJ WAS Georgia Tech. He couldn't help it that he had RB as his QB. Without Calvin, the last couple of years wouldn't have been NEARLYas much fun. We also won more games becuase of him. (Clemson) It isn't often that you get a guy like him.

You don't retire a guy's number because he was fun to watch and won a couple games for us. If you are going to do that, you should probably retire a lot of numbers from the defense, and probably something of Tenuta's too, as they did much the same thing. It takes something more than that to get your number retired. Unless you play for the Texas basketball team.

Larry Morris and George Morris WERE GT, and their numbers aren't retired and they both did a helluva lot more than CJ did. As said before, there is only one jersey retired and I can only hope that it stays that way. That was the ultimate sacrifice.

Important distinction:

Are their numbers being retired or their jerseys? Other schools retire jerseys all the time.

Lol, what do I know? I'm still a noob to Tech football.

First serious year of watching was 03.

Calvins the only guy I really liked watching tho.

I think Jonothan Dwyer's gonna be next. He DOES have #21.
